Leicester House, London

Housed within a beautiful, five-storey Georgian building in London’s popular Chinatown district, Leicester House is an exquisite hotel boasting 14 guest rooms and three suites.

The hotel provides comfort and style in abundance and is the perfect resting place for those who want to experience the vibrancy of Chinatown, Soho and beyond.

Highlights of Leicester House include a complete concierge service, a baby-sitting service, wireless broadband and of course, dedicated room service. All hotel staff are fully trained to ensure a stay at Leicester House is as comfortable and relaxing as possible and this has resulted in excellent customer feedback since the hotel opened its doors in May.

In addition to its high standards of hospitality, the hotel includes a fantastic 50-cover restaurant, which serves up French Vietnamese cuisine. The restaurant includes an open kitchen and a Robata charcoal grill, which adds an element of theatricality to dining, and also ensures that diners can enjoy some truly delicious meals.

The restaurant at Leicester House serves dishes from breakfast through to dinner. Signature dishes at the venue include the likes of scallops with seashore vegetables, mirin, herbs and bone broth, or smoked ribs with kaffir lime and coriander. Meanwhile, larger options include the BBQ rump, with dried shrimp and chilli & ginger rub or the bone broth, pork collar and crab wonton.

Concept development and Design & Build specialists, DrieDee International was responsible for the interior design work on Leicester House. The company was given a fairly open brief on the project, which allowed them to utilise their vast experience in order to create a venue which could appeal to the local tourist trade whilst remaining desirable to all.

Speaking to Premier Hospitality about the design inspiration for Leicester House, David Mason a Lead Designer at DrieDee, said:

“Leicester House is a beautiful venue, situated in an amazing location in central London. When we were developing the concept and design we wanted to incorporate nods to the hotel’s close proximity to China Town, and this is also reflected in the restaurant’s menu.

“The building is Georgian, so it’s important the design is respectful to that period, a time when there was a large fascination with the Orient. During the building’s creation, I liked the idea that its heritage was a point in time when people were seeking out new cultures and new experiences, so we have brought this through in the design.

“When developing the creative direction of Leicester House, we explored the history of the building, which once operated as a French restaurant and had also played host to Karl Marx and Johann Strauss; so we wanted to pay homage to this in the design concept.”

During the work on the hotel, existing rooms were given a soft makeover, whilst a bar on the first floor was removed completely. This space was then filled with two new suites.

Working on a project like Leicester House was very important to David and his team and one which allowed DrieDee to flex its creative muscles in order to provide a design which is both practical and aesthetically pleasing.

David commented:

“This is a truly signature project, that enabled us to work with a venue that is steeped in history and cultural references. Leicester House is a beautifully unique hotel with solid dining credentials.”
