Dear readers,

Welcome to the latest edition of Premier Construction magazine.

In this month’s edition, we take a look at two of the UK’s historical gems Hever Castle; Anne Boleyn’s former childhood retreat and Lincoln Castle; the home of the Magna Carta.

Explore the newly revamped Hever Castle & Gardens which has recently added nine new bedrooms to its luxury bed and breakfast accommodation following a 12 month on site project. The idyllic castle offers guests the chance to soak up the beautiful atmosphere and impressive scenery, as well as learn more about the 700 year old building whilst enjoying 21st century comfort.

The new, individually designed rooms can be found in the refurbished Anne Boleyn Wing and each boast a unique theme. Nine to Eleven Design delivered the design services for the scheme after establishing a longstanding relationship with Hever Castle owners Broadlands Properties across a series of previous projects.

Nine to Eleven Design’s company Director Sarah Clark, commented:

“We have created individually designed bedrooms that echo the essence of the refurbished Amstell Wing bedrooms offering great views of the castle and grounds. The rooms have been given a slight medieval theme with an Edwardian feel.”

We also celebrate the Magna Carta’s 800th anniversary by exploring the extensive multi-million pound restoration works at Lincoln Castle. The ambitious restoration is set to be unveiled later this year and has been carried out on behalf of Lincolnshire Council.

Key elements of the scheme include the refurbishment and conservation of the Georgian and Victorian Prison buildings within Lincoln Castle; the construction of a climate controlled subterranean pod to display Magna Carta and the Charter of the Forest; and the construction of a Heritage Skills Centre.

These and other elements of the project are being carried out by main contractors Robert Woodhead, working alongside architects Arrol & Snell. Robert Woodhead been praised for the standard of their work on the scheme by Mary Powell, Tourism Development Manager at Lincolnshire County Council who said:

“The quality of the building works by Woodhead Heritage has been a joy.”

With all this and more, join us as we explore the impressive construction projects that continue to shape our landscape.
