Situated in the heart of London’s West End, The Langham Hotel has undergone an impressive refurbishment which commenced during late summer 2014, and was completed in July 2015.

Named Europe’s first “Grand Hotel”, the Langham promises guests an exquisite experience.

Delighting guests with affable hospitality since 1865, the hotel boasts an enchanting exterior and an array of rooms and suites that offer a stylish yet homely stay. The Langham features many bespoke items such as the silver gilded, hand painted wallpaper; fibrous plaster to the Club Lounge ceilings; and specialist soft furnishings such as specially made carpets.

Renowned for its legendary service, the hotel can provide for any meeting, function or event, offering an expert events team to accommodate every request. The Langham also benefits from a lavish Grand Ballroom with adjacent Courtyard Garden – offering a stunning al fresco space – to accommodate weddings. Boasting caterers to fulfil different food requests and needs, the Langham wedding menus are something special.

Dining takes place in an assortment of restaurants and bars within the hotel, including the elegant restaurant Roux at The Landau, uniting the legendary culinary expertise and creativity of the prestigious Albert and Michael Roux Jr. The restaurant features a quirky vaulted wine corridor where guests can browse a selection of rare wines from around the world.

The Langham features wellness facilities such as a 16-metre long swimming pool, relaxing saunas and steam rooms and a luxurious underground sanctuary, presenting pampering treatments from experienced and attentive therapists. Modern cardio and strength equipment and expert personalised trainers are also available, along with a health club membership.

S&T UK was appointed as main refurbishment contractor for the project. The company delivered the soft refurbishment of 47 rooms in the Regent Wing, formation of the new Sterling Suite and Club Lounge, and the construction of two link bridges between the Lounge and main hotel building.

New air-handling and extract plant installation to serve the lower ground also had to be complete, in addition to the ground and first floors replacing the existing plant and the enlargement of 12 shower cubicles.

In terms of external developments that took place within the project, S&T had to develop two external structural link bridges joining the newly formed Club Lounge and the Sterling suite to the main hotel at the second and third floors.

Premier Hospitality caught up with Matt McCabe, Senior Project Manager of S&T Interiors, to ask a few questions regarding the project. Matt said:

“The project had its challenges, working in a live hotel environment with restricted access. However, the client and the project team were delighted with the end result.”

He added:

“The Langham is one of the most iconic hotels in London and S&T UK is immensely proud to have been involved with its recent refurbishments. The Sterling Suite at 450² metres is now the largest hotel suite in London.”
