As a leading contractor, Skanska is involved in many of the UK’s most prestigious building and infrastructure projects, in both the private and public sectors.

Skanska work on an array of schemes, from small projects to large-scale works and this ranges from education, rail, utilities and defence works, to healthcare, highways, commercial property schemes and much more.

Past projects completed by Skanska have included Crossrail Paddington, HMP Grampian and Bentley works. Meanwhile a more recent project is New Ludgate a brand new commercial development situated next to the Old Baily, London.

New Ludgate comprises two buildings and provides 35,210 sq meters of commercial office, retail and restaurant. One New Ludgate is a 10-storey steel frame building, whilst Two New Ludgate is a 10-storey concrete frame building.

Land Securities appointed Skanska in June 2013 as the main contractor to design and construct New Ludgate. This included the mechanical and electrical fit-out of selected floors, along with the creation of a public square.

Working closely with Land Securities, Skanska put together a specialist in-house team which combined a variety of skills, from design and construction to mechanical & electrical engineering to ceiling installation.

Fletcher Priest was the architect on the master plan and One New Ludgate. Sauerbruch Hutton was the architect for Two New Ludgate and Gustafson Porter was responsible for the landscaping.

Managing Director, Paul Heather, said:

“We’re delighted to have completed One and Two New Ludgate. The main challenges were constructing two completely different buildings to a very short programme, with one delivery entrance, in a busy London site opposite the Old Bailey. I’m extremely pleased with the quality we have achieved.

“These distinctive buildings are a notable addition to our portfolio of high-quality offices in the capital.”
