DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel & Spa Liverpool boasts 87 bedrooms and suites – including three Junior Suites, two Mezzanine Suites and the Presidential Suite – as well the stunning Library Lounge, a spa, three conference and banqueting suites and an exclusive cigar terrace. In addition, the hotel also includes a beautiful 130 cover restaurant, Jean Christophe Novelli at Michelle Brasserie.
Walker Sime oversaw the construction of DoubleTree by Hilton Liverpool, taking what was a long gestating project and transforming it into another success for the DoubleTree brand. With offices in Manchester, Leeds and Liverpool, Walker Sime is able to provide clients with a range of services, from quantity surveying and construction design management to project management.
Walker Sime initially worked alongside Contracts North Ltd on the project, but when Contracts North Ltd went into administration, Walker Sime took over as main contractor with Neil heading up the scheme. Falconer Chester Hall provided architectural services on the project.
Speaking to Premier Hospitality, Neil Kimmance of Walker Sime said:
“The hotel is housed within three buildings which have been joined into one, including two Listed buildings. The first of the Listed buildings was the former Conservative Club, known as Municipal Annex. It is believed that a lot of the early decisions in Liverpool were made from this building. The second Listed building originally housed children’s law courts, which were quite prominent in the ‘60s, ‘70s and ‘80s.
“There was another Listed building on the site, which sat between these two buildings, but it was dilapidated so this had to be knocked down and replaced with a new build. It is a very interesting site, with a lot of history.”
“This was our first project for DoubleTree by Hilton. We represent the Co-Operative Bank in different matters and they funded this particular project. There were a few issues on the project prior to us coming on board, so we were brought in to troubleshoot the work, taking it from where it was to its eventual handover.
“There were three different buildings, so it was a complicated project because of all the different facets, but the end product is beautiful.”
As a local lad, working on DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel & Spa Liverpool has been very important for Neil.
“It was a fantastic opportunity, especially as this is one of the biggest and best sites in Liverpool. The project had been in development for some time with no one able to complete it, so we came in and managed to complete it in 18 months, which was a great achievement.”
First constructed in 1865, the site that houses DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel & Spa Liverpool retains its architectural splendour, boasting many significant features which ensure the building remains a key structure in the city’s landscape. The hotel is located just a couple of minutes’ walk from Moorfields train station, with Liverpool Lime Street station only ½ a mile away.
As with all hotels under the DoubleTree by Hilton umbrella, the hotel’s staff is on hand to provide guests with the best stay possible, kick-started by a warm welcome and DoubleTree’s signature chocolate cookie on arrival. On-site recreation options are available, from a 24 hour fitness suite to a swimming pool and sauna, whilst tailored promotional packages are also an option.
