Recently Carillion announced that a Carillion Joint Venture – The Hospital Company – has been selected as the preferred bidder by Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust to deliver the new Midland Metropolitan Hospital. The project is being delivered as a Public Private Partnership under a 30-year concession contract, using the UK Government’s PF2 model, and will include around 670 beds as well as 15 operating theatre suites.

The new hospital will also include a fully enclosed Winter Garden and car parking facilities. The building is being constructed to meet the highest standards of sustainability.

Construction work on the project is currently scheduled to take place between early 2016 and mid-2018. The hospital is due to open in late 2018.

Commenting, Carillion Chief Executive, Richard Howson, said:

“We look forward to working with the Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust to deliver a state of the art facility that will enable the Trust to achieve its objectives for delivering significant improvements in healthcare services for the people of Sandwell and West Birmingham.”
