Neal’s Yard Remedies

For more than 34 years Neal’s Yard Remedies has built up a reputation as a leading expert in ethical organic health & beauty products. The retailer opened its first store in 1981 in London’s Covent Garden, and to this day Neal’s Yard Remedies continues to offer customers a great range of natural remedies, from skincare and bath products to aromatherapy and more.

Speaking to Premier Retail, Neal’s Yard Remedies Head of PR & Social Media, Jane Killingsworth, said:
“Neal’s Yard Remedies specialise in organic health and beauty products, all certified by the Soil Association – the UK’s leading environmental charity. We opened our first store in Neal Yard’s in Covent Garden and to date we have 53 stores around the UK.
“We are best known for our blue bottle beauty products, but perhaps what a lot of people don’t know about our stores is they can also find a wide range of inner health and wellness products, such as superfoods, supplements, herbs and tinctures. We also have the largest number of therapy rooms in the UK offering a variety of holistic treatments including massage, reflexology, acupuncture and much more.
“Recently we’ve seen consumers understanding the relationship between inner and outer health, and wellbeing is no longer a fad, it’s a way of life. Due to this we’ve seen customers wanting to find out more about our natural health offering, to take care of themselves from the inside out and this is an area which we are able to educate people to make healthy choices.
“Our stores are a place where customers can learn all about organic health and beauty – not just the benefits for themselves, but also the benefits for the world.”

Keen to keep Neal’s Yard Remedies at the forefront of the natural remedies sector, the retailer has recently opened a number of new stores, including a store in London’s Liverpool Street Station, as well as a store at Birmingham Grand Central. In addition, Neal’s Yard Remedies has relocated its existing Manchester store in order to provide Mancunians with even more products than ever before.

Neal’s Yard Remedies - Manchester

The first of these stores to open was the Liverpool Street Station store, which opened at the end of August 2015. The 440 sq ft store showcases a range of great products and is trading very well.

Neal’s Yard Remedies UK Sales Director, Alex Leach, said:
“We have a great relationship with Network Rail, so when the Liverpool Street site came up we jumped at the opportunity to introduce a new store. Although it’s a smaller store concept for us, we have experienced great historical success with smaller footprints in the past.”
Following the opening of the Liverpool Street Station, Neal’s Yard Remedies unveiled its new-look Manchester store in September, which can be found on King Street in the heart of the city centre. The 835 sq ft store is the biggest Neal’s Yard Remedies store in the UK and boasts four therapy rooms, an extensive range of inner health and outer beauty products, as well as plenty of space for consultations.

Alex Leach, said:
“We have been in Manchester for a number of years, previously trading on John Dalton Street. This was a really successful location for us, but over time trends change so we were always open to the idea of relocating. When the opportunity came up to move to King Street, in a fantastic building, we went for it.”
Hot on the heels of the Manchester store, Neal’s Yard Remedies opened another store at Birmingham Grand Central. The 435 sq ft store is similar in design to the Liverpool Street Station store, with a large frontage and great in-store visual displays.
Alex said:
“This store allows us to really focus on some of our key products such as our Frankincense skincare range and our aromatherapy range.”
BCS was the main contractor on all three stores and Neal Yard’s Remedies has built up a strong working relationship with them.
Alex commented:
“Our relationship with BCS is great, whether it’s James Baker the Commercial Director or the guys who are working on site. We’re really happy with the work that is undertaken.”
With these stores now open and trading well, plans are already in the pipeline to expand the Neal’s Yard Remedies offering, with more locations on the horizon.
Alex said:
“We have a large number of stores in the south, so as we open new stores we are looking at key locations in the north to further develop our UK coverage.
“We are always looking at where we can open new stores and I can see us opening around another 30 stores in the next three to five years.”
