Bermondsey Square Hotel
Synecore Limited – devoted M&E contractor to the hospitality and leisure sector – recently finalised the electrical and mechanical design and installation for Bermondsey Square Hotel. Situated within short proximity to London’s historic landmarks and Tower Bridge, the hotel underwent an extensive refurbishment of its ground floor and first floor bedrooms.
Across the ground and first floor, Synecore managed and installed the general power for the electrical fixtures, data cabling and IP TV connections. The electrical installation was put in place to support the computers, card machines, new and existing mechanical equipment, televisions and a games machine in reception.
Synecore delivered an electrical and mechanical fit-out to accommodate 11 bedrooms on the first floor and ground floor public areas, which included the theatrical open plan dining room, bar, reception, office, meeting room and washrooms.
The ground floor is abundant in space, featuring designated zones to provide guests with intimate and comfortable areas for socialising and business meetings. The varied lighting played a significant role in creating the specified zones, from sultry to playful. Throughout the dining space, Synecore installed recessed LED strip lighting within the ceiling, elegant pendant lighting for the serving stations, spot lights, soothing down-lighters and lamps within the cosy dining booths.
The first floor refurbishment incorporated newly constructed bedrooms, meaning a lot of the existing electrics, air conditioning and ventilation were redundant, therefore, Synecore stripped out all of the disused services and installed new supply and exhaust air ducts for two Heat Recovery Units.
Ambient lighting was added to the bedrooms, alongside large lit mirrors and recessed LED down-lighters in order to emanate a calming, relaxing environment for guests. Doors were fitted with RFID access control systems for security, and the main fire detection alarm system was modified to accommodate the new bedrooms and layout. Synecore fitted vibrating pillows and mobile alarms to the hotel’s disabled access room, in the case of a fire.
Robert Holland, The Regional Operations Manager for Bermondsey Square Hotel, said:
“Throughout the refurbishment the hotel remained opened at all times and despite the scale of the development, the disruption to our guests and the hotel was virtually unnoticeable. Throughout the project the Synecore team members were friendly and helpful at all times, and the quality of work has been exceptional.
“We’re very pleased with the end results and would certainly recommend Synecore to fellow hotels. In fact, we received such good service we have contracted Synecore to carry out the ongoing maintenance for our air conditioning, ventilation and refrigeration systems.”
Bermondsey Square Hotel is located in the heart of ever-evolving Bermondsey, with a thriving restaurant, bar and club scene, as well as art alleries, design studios and boutique shops – meaning that there is always an adventure to be taken in this part of London. The stylish hotel is a bespoke property offering 90 contemporary bedrooms, including a series of loft rooms overlooking London’s stunning skyline.
Interestingly, the Bermondsey addition was selected as a memorable place to stay around the world, and was also the setting for Channel 4’s ‘Hotel GB’. The show ran in October 2012, with Gordon Ramsey and Mary Portas competing to raise money for charity.
With a fantastic modern British inspired all day menu, the brand new lounge area is a comfortable and welcoming space in which guests can dine in, pick up a bite to eat on their way out, or sit with their laptop and a coffee. Doors open from 11am until 11pm, and the area is available to guests and locals, visitors and friends.
Bermondsey Square Hotel joined Synecore’s essential service and maintenance programme to be certain that air conditioning, ventilation and refrigeration throughout the building would be maintained and to ensure that they remain Fgas compliant all year round.
As part of the contract, Synecore will service the Mitsubishi R410a VRF system’s nine condensing units, 109 cassette units, BC control boxes, the server room, and condensers for the kitchen cold room, the beer cellar, various fridges, freezers and ice machines.
