Dear readers,

Welcome to the latest edition of Premier Construction magazine.

In this month’s edition, we journey to Twycross Zoo to take a look at the zoo’s newly installed Gibbon Forest; we preview what is set to be the world’s largest all-weather race track in Newcastle; and we enjoy the beautiful hospitality at Hogarths Gin Place.

Popular visitor attraction, Twycross Zoo in Leicestershire, officially opened its Gibbon Forest on Wednesday 10th February, representing one of the largest gibbon facilities in Europe. Covering almost an acre of land, Gibbon Forest is ten times larger than the primates’ former enclosure and is specifically designed to replicate the natural forest environment of gibbons, as well as provide an exhilarating experience for visitors. The innovative £2million development marks the latest phase in the zoo’s £55 million capital investment programme.

Meanwhile, Newcastle Racecourse is set to become the world’s largest all-weather race track after undergoing a £12 million investment. Work on the redevelopment of the course began in September 2015 and is due for completion in mid-March with races starting in May.

Stephen Higgins, Property Director at Arena Racing Company, which owns Newcastle Racecourse said: “It is going to be the only all-weather track in the world with a straight mile, together with a two mile circular track and in terms of its circumference, it is the biggest all-weather track in the world.”

And finally, an exciting new gin bar, Hogarths Gin Place, has been unveiled in Leicester, following the extensive refurbishment of the ground floor areas of what was formerly Square Bar, situated on Hotel Street. The bar, owned by Amber Taverns, is the seventh Hogarths branch to have opened in the UK. Hogarths Gin Palace was a huge success when it officially opened its doors at the end of January. The bar offers over 140 flavours of gin and 20 various tonics as well as innovative cocktails and craft ales.

With all this and more, join us as we explore the impressive construction projects that continue to shape our landscape.
