Castle Terrace

Castle Terrace

One of Scotland’s leading restaurants, Dominic Jack at Castle Terrace, has opened its doors to guests following a £1m total refurbishment and restructure of the dining room and kitchen area. After a year of planning, the talented team behind the restaurant has revealed an expanded dining space, now with over 70 covers, and a brand new state of the art kitchen, as well as a new Private Dining Room and a unique Chef’s Table and wine cellar.

This year, the restaurant will mark six years in the city, in the enviable location at the foot of Edinburgh Castle. To celebrate, the refurbishment has included a unique mural, hand drawn by famed Scottish artist Nichol Wheatley. The intricate line drawing has been cleverly and carefully crafted on the interior wall of the restaurant. Though the wall conceals views to the Castle, the custom made mural offers guests an artistic vision of the silhouette of the iconic Edinburgh Castle that sits adjacent to the wall.

Castle Terrace Restaurant, led by Chef Patron Dominic Jack, is part of the renowned Kitchin group of restaurants. Since opening, the restaurant has become a firm favourite with locals, as well as UK and international visitors. The recent investment and new interior of the restaurant allows the team to continue innovating menus, accommodate even more diners and cater for special occasions with a naturally lit 16-cover private dining room.  A distinctive Chef’s Table and wine cellar will give guests the opportunity to gain an exclusive behind the scenes experience with one of Scotland’s most talented chefs.

The stylish interior of the restaurant has been led by Michaela Kitchin who, alongside Glasgow-based Stephen Paterson of Burns Design, has truly brought the restaurant’s original and enviable Georgian Townhouse features to the forefront in an elegant and bold way. The space evokes tones of rich Georgian Heritage Blue and a touch of glamour with gold velvet chairs, all softened with grey and dark blue tones, tactile wallpaper and fabric coverings. Warmth from two new fireplaces and a new bar front allow guests to enjoy a pre or post dinner drink or coffee.

Fabrics from the Isle of Bute, structured three-dimensional wallpapers from Scandinavian design team BN Wallcoverings, stylish Antique Murano Mirror and leather from Sunbury Design, have all been carefully sourced from Scotland and Scandinavia, to create a lush ambience, with a blend of rustic glamour, drawing on the building’s origin.

A brand new Maestro by Bonnet cooking suite gives Chef Dominic and his brigade of chefs a third more space to continue to evolve the seasonal menus and passion for outstanding menus which the restaurant has been recognised for. The interior of the kitchen with its white brick tiles has been inspired by a typical French restaurant kitchen in a nod to Chef Dominic’s first class training in some of France’s – and the worlds – top restaurants.

Castle Terrace

Dominic Jack said: “Since we opened it’s been an incredible journey. The restaurant, our business and the team have evolved and grown since we opened and the refurbishment definitely reflects this – it felt like a natural next step. The new space allows us to continue to push for excellence in the service we provide and also allows me and my team to continue evolving our food.

“The complete restructure of the new kitchen space is an absolute Chef’s dream. We’ve introduced the new Chef’s Table to allow a select number of guests to see how our kitchen works. It’s all about taking our guests on a culinary journey. They can see our wine cellar and understand the level of detail and passion that goes into each and every dish we serve our diners.”

Each of the new features will allow the team to maintain the consistently excellent levels of service that are synonymous with the restaurant. The stylish, welcoming ambience will remain, along with the restaurant’s commitment to serving only the very best, fresh, seasonal and local produce in line with the restaurant’s From Nature to Plate ethos.
