The Alliance Club in a new light
Situated in Bond Street, St Helier in Jersey, the Alliance Club is a private members club that is based in a Grade 4 Listed Building and is one of a fine pair of town houses with a striking shared porch and original front doors and railings.
Previously, the club was comfortable and featured a snooker room; however it had most definitely become tired and dated. November 2015 saw the club undergo a refurbishment to improve facilities and modernise the club, which is currently ongoing and due for completion in April this year.
Through the renovation, there has always been a plan in place to create a much lighter, more chic space abundant in features. The snooker room is being replaced with a pool table, quite areas with comfortable seating will be available to members and their guests to enable them to have a coffee and an impromptu meeting in a relaxed and private space throughout the day.
Acting as main contractor, MND Construction are responsible for the structural works to the building, including the removal of several interior walls, and stripping out the bar and kitchen. The bar has been moved to the opposite side of the room.
Premier Construction caught up with Dominic Sullivan, Company Secretary at Alliance Club, who commented:
“The aim of the project has always been to bring the club up to 21st Century requirements, and improve the facilities for our members. The Alliance Club has been established since 1905, and owns the entire building. This is its first re-fit since 1927 so it was in much need of one!
“We have opened up the whole floor, put in a new kitchen and new bar, rewired and re plumbed the whole building and we now have floors available to hire for corporate events. We also have facilities that we can now offer to be hired out to companies for seminars, weddings, christenings and birthday parties etc.
“We will be offering a host of new options for dining to our members on a daily basis, within our dedicated dining area. Different mood areas are in place within the space, and a new bar has been integrated in addition to a sports end including a brand new pool table. Stylish carpets have been introduced as well as Antigo flooring, in order to create a more contemporary and trendy environment.”
When reopened, the club will be available to host private parties in all forms. Also available to businesses, the space can be used for corporate functions on an hourly/half day/full day basis. The club will also offer delegate rates for board room up to 50 delegates, including full multimedia facilities. A licensed bar is available as well as anything from tea and coffee to a buffet or hot meals.
Dominic added:
“Our biggest challenge has probably been bringing the building up to modern requirements. The building is very old, and so it can be a challenge to transform a building like this to something contemporary. We also had to put in new fire exits to make the building completely fire safety compliant.
“It’s been great to be involved in helping to deliver a new club for our members and move forward with the future of the Alliance Club.”
