Rooms at James Sommerin

James Sommerin

The long anticipated Rooms at the award-winning Restaurant James Sommerin in Penarth, near Cardiff, has been officially launched.

Sommerin said: “We’ve been trialling the rooms for a couple of months so that we are sure that they are completely ready to go – as we want to create a unique ‘boutique B&B’ experience in this stunning historic property overlooking Penarth’s seafront.”

James Sommerin started cooking at the age of 12 and was awarded a Michelin star where he worked as head chef at The Crown at Whitebrook, after which he opened his own restaurant at Beachcliff in Penarth two years ago.

The Rooms provide the perfect opportunity for restaurant guests to extend their fine dining experience at the award-winning restaurant into a luxurious overnight stay complete with a sumptuous James Sommerin breakfast.

Restaurant James Sommerin with Rooms offers nine luxury rooms, perfect for a romantic break, a special occasion or just for sheer indulgence. Five of the rooms have breath-taking views of the Severn Estuary. Room prices range from £150 to £190 a night for bed and breakfast.

The Rooms launch follows nearly two years in which Restaurant James Sommerin has picked up numerous accolades and high praise from diners. It was ranked an impressive 24 in the UK in the Good Food Guide 2016 – the highest placed restaurant in Wales. The restaurant has also been awarded three AA rosettes and the Rooms itself has been given a five star rating from AA and Visit Wales.

The Rooms are part of the transformation of the landmark Beachcliff building, once the epitome of Edwardian elegance and now carefully restored to its former glory by Richard Hayward and the team at Richard Hayward Properties. Beachcliff also comprises of apartments and town houses.

In keeping with the stunning building, the Rooms at James Sommerin have each been given a bespoke interior design. Those at the back of the building are a bold, vibrant and dramatic feel; while sea facing rooms are more subtle – reflecting the water in blues and teals and allowing the stunning views to make the statement.

James Sommerin said of the launch of the Rooms: “Opening and running the restaurant has been a lot of hard work but tremendously rewarding. Now we hope to be able to take the diners experience to the next level, offering them not only a wonderful meal but also a relaxing night in this beautiful location on Penarth Esplanade. The Rooms allow diners to enjoy themselves to the max without having to worry about how to get home; it also means that we are able to attract and accommodate guests from further afield. We’ve already had lots of interest in the Rooms and are looking forward to welcoming many guests in the coming months.”
