Expansion is on the menu for Thai casual dining brand Busaba, which has just opened a new 5,418 sq ft restaurant in retail and leisure destination Liverpool ONE, at 111 to 116 Hanover Street, offering Liverpool diners the chance to experience a taste of modern Bangkok.

Designed by Russell Sage Studio, the venue is Busaba’s second restaurant outside London. Fit out contractors for the project were RTS.

The interior design of the 144-cover dining area and bar draws inspiration from traditional Thai architecture, furniture, textiles, joinery and modern day Bangkok with a colour a palette of gold, copper and blue.

Interior design features include a long, elegant bar counter complemented by a dramatic illuminated backbar with bottle display. Seating along the length of the counter gives customers the option of dining as well as drinking there.

Within the main dining area, tables of varying sizes provide flexible seating for any number of diners, who can also opt for seating booths – some beneath the windows. Modern Japanese-influenced artwork on the walls adds an extra atmospheric touch.

Lighting is another distinctive design element and includes huge glazed feature lighting ‘cubes’ and tubular glass pendants – all with an oriental influence.

A further striking feature is the brightly illuminated state-of-the-art open kitchen where diners can see their food being prepared.

Busaba (named after a Thai flower), offers a much coveted, flavoursome selection of freshly prepared salads, stir fries and curries. The menu also features Asian-inspired juices and smoothies, as well as a simple yet selective wine list.

The menu is inspired by modern Bangkok, including Busaba’s best-selling Thai Calamari, its famous Pad Thai and iconic Thai curries, all made with Busaba’s secret recipe curry pastes; developed in association with Michelin Star Chef David Thompson. Over in the bar, a range of flavoursome Thai Teas’, Thai inspired juices, signature cocktails, local and far-away beers and more, is on offer.

Sookjai is Busaba’s living ethos. Based on traditional Buddhist values, sookjai is about avoiding the everyday chaos that distracts. Instead, focus on taking life as it comes and creating your own reality. Literally, its meaning is ‘to enjoy’ and ‘happy heart’.

Commenting on Busaba, Miles Dunnett, Director of Portfolio Management at Grosvenor Fund Management, said: “The signing of Busaba marked the successful completion of a strategy to establish Hanover Street as one of the most up-and-coming dining destinations in the North West. The authenticity of the brand is a great complement to Hanover Street and the Rope Walks, and Busaba adds even more choice to the already strong dining and leisure offer Liverpool ONE provides for residents and visitors alike.”

Jason Myers, Busaba CEO added: “We are extremely excited to have brought the Busaba restaurant experience to Liverpool; our regional expansion is hugely significant for the business and this is our second restaurant in the North West for 2016.

“We have heard much about the success of Liverpool ONE, which put it at the top of our list as we sought the location for our next restaurant, so we were excited to open in the city and to welcome in the people of Liverpool to sample the true taste of modern Bangkok.”

Spread over three levels, Liverpool ONE is the region’s destination of choice for consumers and brands alike.

Its offer includes over 170 high street names anchored by John Lewis, Beauty Bazaar Harvey Nichols. Debenhams and the largest Topshop in Europe outside of London. Other recent additions include Byron, Browns and TGI Friday’s, Zara has opened its new regional flagship, and Liverpool ONE is home to the first standalone Michael Kors store in the North West.

22 brands committed to Liverpool ONE in the last year and almost 50,000 sq ft of restaurant brands were added to the line-up.
