This Month in Premier Construction 23.1

Welcome to the latest edition of Premier Construction magazine.

In this month’s edition, In this month’s edition, we take a look at the new library in Halifax; we tuck into a helping of Red’s True Barbecue; and we unveil the new facilities at Wolfson College.

A range of green technologies are being installed at Halifax’s new Central Library and Archive, as the building looks to achieve a BREEAM Excellent rating. The £9.2m development – set to open in October 2016 as part of Calderdale Council’s multi-million pound Piece Hall Transformation Project – will feature two ground source heat pumps and solar panels to generate its own heating and electricity. The main contractor on the project is GRAHAM Construction. Gary Hughes, GRAHAM Construction regional director, said: “This is an important development for the people of Halifax which will be used by generations to come. Using these renewable technologies, the building will be extremely energy efficient and able to produce a significant amount of its own energy needs.”
Meanwhile, popular restaurant chain, Red’s True Barbecue has branched out in a lively student area in Sheffield,
in its crusade to bring a true taste of Texas BBQ to the
UK. Keen to find out a little bit more about the project, Premier Construction recently caught up with Jordan Littler, Managing Director at Jordan Littler Interior Design, to get the lowdown. In addition to giving us an insight into the new restaurant, Jordan fills us in on the Red’s concept.
And finally, in commemoration of the work that has been undertaken by Wolfson College over the last 50 years, a new auditorium and academic wing have been created at the college. The new wing links the Leonard Wolfson Auditorium, completed in June 2013, to the main college and provides facilities to enhance life at Wolfson.

With all this and more, join us as we explore the impressive construction projects that continue to shape our landscape.
