Bellway Homes – Winning team is 18 months ahead of schedule!
National recognition in the form of an NHBC Pride in the Job Quality Award, as well as fast-forwarding estimated build completion by an astounding 18 months, are the rewards reaped by Bellway Homes (Scotland) site manager Kevin Dineen and his team on the company’s Glenmill development in Darney, South-West Glasgow.
Describing hearing of the win as a “fairly phenomenal moment” Kevin, who also won an NHBC Quality Award in 2008, said: “Glenmill includes 150 homes and is the company’s busiest site, so to achieve an award – especially whilst running such a major project – means a lot. We are all very happy and the whole team deserves commendation – particularly my assistant site manager Craig Cairney. The company’s senior management are also very pleased with the win.”
Kevin took over management of the site last August, a quarter of the way through the first phase of the three-phase construction programme – and since then the build has accelerated from an estimated completion date in June 2019 to expected completion in January 2018 – a full 18 months ahead of programme.
He puts the key elements of his success down to good communication (including direct contact and involvement with everyone on site); strong motivation in getting everyone on board in a ‘team effort’; efficient organisation, including careful scheduling of various site trades; good housekeeping, and maintaining a high standard of site safety.
“We also made sure that each house was in a pristine condition ready for the NHBC inspectors,” added Kevin, who has been with Bellway Homes for nine years.
“We have around 60 people working on site and I will be treating them all to a night out to celebrate the award soon,” said Kevin, who started his career in site management after leaving university at the age of 23.
Including three four and five bedroom properties, the Glenmill development incorporates an impressive range of homes – each with an outstanding specification.
For example, the Oakmont is an imposing, detached family home boasting a contemporary, open-plan kitchen and breakfast area, along with four spacious double bedrooms on the upper floor.
The ground floor presents a generous, front-facing living room which leads onto the open-plan kitchen and breakfast area. The kitchen includes an integrated oven, hob and chimney hood and stylish fitted units. The spacious breakfast area benefits from access to the rear garden via elegant French doors, and adjoins a convenient utility room. There is also a cloakroom on this level.
On the first floor there are four generous double bedrooms, each designed with ample space for wardrobes. The front-facing master bedroom boasts an en suite with white Roca sanitaryware and includes a modern mixer shower. There is a contemporary family bathroom on this floor, which also includes Roca sanitaryware, satin chrome brassware and ceramic wall tiling.
