McCann - James McDaidFollowing recent success with Highways England awarding them the contracts for Area 7’s Road Lighting, Electrical Works and its Technology, the team at the civil and electrical construction firm, McCann Ltd, has announced further growth at its Nottingham-based HQ with the appointment of Estimator James McDaid.

Joining McCann from Balfour Beatty, where he started the company’s multi site street lighting additional revenue business in 2007, James brings with him a wealth of industry knowledge and experience gained over a decade working within both the public and private sector.

In his new role at the civil and electrical engineering construction firm, James will be managing a team of assistant estimators and technical assistants, and he’ll also be responsible for the generation and production of the company’s bids and tenders.

“This is split into two sides of the business,” explains James. “One side being the general civil engineering and construction projects that we deliver on a day-to-day basis, and the other is working with my colleague Tiz Gibson – also a recent addition to the McCann team – to build the Local Authority side of the business. As part of the Bid Team, I complete all the pricing which is obviously key to any contract win.”

Both Tiz and James’ appointments follow the company’s achievement in completing a number of projects for local Councils, including its most recent – working with North East Lincolnshire Council to replace over 20,000 traditional street lights with low energy LED lights.

Completing the project ahead of schedule and on budget, McCann’s reputation for reliability, efficiency and outstanding health and safety standards has grown exponentially amongst Local Authorities across the UK, and MD John McCann is keen to capitalise on this upturn.

“We are extremely pleased to have James on board,” adds John McCann. “He has been instrumental in the implementation of various Local Authority public realm works, energy-efficiency schemes and architectural projects in his previous roles, making him an excellent addition to our team.”

“McCann has already impressed me with its size, people, plan and general resource – they certainly are the best in their field,” adds James.
