The Daneway Inn

Daneway

A traditional pub, The Daneway Inn presents a comforting and welcoming space, with a focus on fresh and seasonal ingredients. The pub, which is named after a star racehorse of one of its past owners, has seen a thorough refurbishment after pub operator Wadworth invested ÂŁ300,000 to update the space.

The transformation has included two extensions on either side of the pub, with brand new kitchen, customer toilets and an additional facility for campers. The new kitchen which is currently underway will enable chefs to serve food of a higher quality, supported by a wide-ranging menu that has been introduced simultaneously to the overhaul.

Jo Skuse, Retail Development Manager at Wadworth, told Premier Hospitality:

“The menu has totally changed from a basic offering to a fresh menu which changes daily, reflecting locally sourced quality produce from light bites to a traditional full Sunday Roast. The Daneway sits in our Great Pub, Great Food segment and offers quality, locally sourced food catering for customers from walkers to destination diners.”

The menu has had a complete revamp and includes traditional pub fayre such as pie and mash, pork pie and Ploughman’s and also seasonal dishes such as heirloom tomato salad, summer garden bowl and pea & basil hummus perfect for enjoying in our sunny garden. There is also a large Dutch oven for cooking meals available for the campers on the campsite.

Planning and the design stages of the new site commenced in October 2015, followed by the main construction works which began in January 2016 and concluded by July.

Jo said:

“Different materials were incorporated into the pub from granite and oak to refurbished and new solid wooden floors mixed with carpeted areas. An eclectic mix of furniture reflects the relaxed country atmosphere of the pub.

“The pub has a campsite which has been well used over the years and now incorporates a Shepherds Hut for the “Glamping” feel.  A new wet room/toilet facility has been provided for campers.”

External works that took place onsite include full external redecoration and new signage, in addition to new fencing to boundaries and general landscaping of the trade garden.

Jo added:

“It was challenging working with planners and the conservation officer to create a scheme that would enable the pub to be a viable business whilst maintaining their wishes of not changing too much about the site.

“As the Area Manager for Wadworth with responsibility for The Daneway, this has been a great project to be in control of.  I grew up just five miles from the pub and it has always been a special place to me.  Located in a beautiful valley, The Daneway is an iconic pub in the area and has featured on various television programs over the years.  When my existing tenants retired after 29 years it was always going to be a challenge to create a business that was viable, workable and profitable whilst retaining the essence of the pub and the reason for people to visit.

“In finding Emma & Pete Bradshaw I think that the pub couldn’t be in better hands.  They have created a relaxed, friendly yet professional operation with excellent ideas for the future.  I am confident that they will be successful and remain in The Daneway for many years.”

Premier Hospitality caught up with Emma Bradshaw, of The Daneway Inn, who commented:

“In addition to the extensions and new areas, the main pub has seen a refurbishment too. Knocking through a wall created a better flow through the pub and we forfeited some of the old bar area to create a bigger dining area.”

Constructed in the 18th century, The Daneway Inn has retained its traditional historic features, maintaining its character and charm. The pub has undergone an added emphasis on comfort, boasting warm, welcoming shades and soft furnishings such as stylish high backed chairs for lounging at the open fireplace.

“At present the work is still ongoing with the new wet room for the campsite being built and the new kitchen is being upgraded so the cabling is being carried out this summer. The last developments are due for completion in January 2017.

“Feedback for the new Inn has been great from locals, who have said that the iconic character of the pub remains the same whilst the renovations have improved the layout and decor.”
