Premier Inn – Burleydam extension

The Premier Inn at Burleyday Brewers Fayer has undergone a two storey extension to create a whole 16 new bedrooms for guests to enjoy.

The high demands of the hotel have meant that in order to accommodate more visitors, the building has had to be extended to fit everyone in for a sound night’s sleep. The construction works involved a two-storey extension to the existing standalone annexe building, as well as two new linen storerooms and a new plant room.

The extension has been built using a timber frame structure and designed with low U-vales. The ground and the first floor external area is now 285m².  The new 16 bedrooms typically have a floor area of 21.8m² including an en-suite of 4m².

Work has also taken place outside of the building, with car parking provisions being added to the site using Geogrid construction. Footpaths and landscaping has also been included.

The exterior finish to the building is brick and block with a render finish.

The total budget of the Premier Inn – Burleydam extension project is £1.276m, which was adhered to. However, there were a few challenges along the way during construction works.

The moto, ‘A good night’s sleep, always’ which Premier Inn stand by soon became top of the priority list for the labourers on site – constructing a two-floor extension whilst ensuring minimal impact to the customers was admittedly very tricky. Tree Preservation Orders dotted around the site also became somewhat of an issue during planning – careful consideration had to be made to ensure no trees would be harmed in the process.

The location was also a significant factor in the design of the timber frame – it had to allow for the close proximity of the existing buildings and fire escape routes. This resulted in an upgrade to the timber frame specification in order to reduce the radiant heat during construction. Despite the minor hiccups, the rest of the project ran impressively smooth.

The main contractors on site were Medlock FRB – a company who specialise in fit out, refurb and build contracting with their very own bespoke joinery manufacturing facility. Medlock operate throughout the UK carrying out projects of varying size and complexity, and have worked with a range of market sectors and in turn have a proven track record of delivering exceptional performances.

The architectural designers on the site were Allison Pike, a company renowned for their high-quality personal service, depth of experience, suitably qualified personnel and the capacity to respond to client demands.

Beginning in April 2016, the Premier Inn – Burleydam will be ready for customers and staff to relish by September.
