Cameron House

Cameron House

Located on the banks of the idyllic Loch Lomond, Cameron House is a five-star luxury resort offering guests award-winning hospitality in the stunning Scottish highlands. The hotel recently revealed the results of a £3m refurbishment; the first phase in what the resort has now announced is a year-long, multimillion pound renovation.

This first stage mainly focused on redeveloping the food and drink offering of the hotel as well as other public spaces. Now boasting five dining options, Cameron House serves some of the best food in the area using only the very best locally sourced ingredients.

Cameron Grill, the resort’s fine dining restaurant, is at the heart of the establishment and has now been refreshed with a new interior design. Light, fresh, neutral tones help create a welcoming space that envelops but equally makes the most of its iconic loch views. There has also been a change in the kitchen with the appointment of a new head chef.

Gary Townsend has established a strong reputation within the industry after 16 years’ experience in fine dining establishments and boutique hotels including Michelin-starred Martin Wishart and The Kitchin in Edinburgh. He has a passion for blending classical cooking with new techniques. Cameron Grill’s new menu and wine list have been designed to complement the new interior. Dishes include Roasted Goodnargh Duck Breast, Highland Deer and Rump of Inverurie Lamb. The food is a celebration of the best home-grown produce from local suppliers.

The Great Scots Bar has also undergone a revamp. A new cocktail bar and menu has been created, adding a level of glamour to the space, whilst additional seating and tables have been added to make the most of the stunning views. As the name suggests, walls are lined with famous Scots from the past and present. Just a few months ago one of Great Britain’s most successful Olympians, Sir Chris Hoy was at the hotel and signed a picture for the wall. For regular visitors, personalised whisky lockers are available to store individual collections.

While The Great Scots Bar and Cameron Grill offer guests a traditional dining experience, The Boathouse restaurant provides something a little bit different. With a signature New England style, the renovation has updated and refreshed the customer experience. Overlooking the enhanced marina at the water’s edge, The Boathouse is a bright and breezy space enhanced by its stunning location. The menu is a perfect foil for the views, celebrating the best of classic dishes and local seafood to be enjoyed inside or out. Popular dishes include Lobster Mac ‘n’ Cheese and a selection of pizzas made in a wood-burning oven.

Away from fine dining, changes have also been made to the public spaces. Meeting rooms and the swimming pool have been upgraded while the reception has been given a brighter, lighter feel thanks to the introduction of four statement chandeliers.

Andy Roger, Resort Director, said:

“This work represents the start of an exciting multimillion-pound investment. We feel the changes celebrate the resort’s setting and bring a new level of luxury to our offering. Our new-look interiors match the warmth of our hospitality, and with more spaces for visitors to sit, press pause and enjoy a taste of Scotland, the feedback from our guests has been overwhelmingly positive.”

The £3m refurbishment has built upon a period of great success for the hotel. Both the establishment and individual facilities have been recognised for industry awards in the past 18 months.

The Spa at Cameron House has been recognised as the Best Luxury Resort Spa for Scotland at the World Luxury Spa Awards two years in a row. Located two miles from Cameron House, the concierge service operates every half hour between the locations. With 17 treatment rooms and a rooftop infinity pool looking out across the Scottish mountains, The Spa is designed for the perfect relaxation experience. It has a Rasul mud chamber with steam room and a relaxation suite. Signature treatments include a rainshower massage, Vichy experience and a salt and oil rainshower. The Spa Café means after your treatment you can enjoy some seasonal soup or grab a small bite to eat.

An alternative to The Spa is found in the championship standard Carrick golf course. Opened in 2007, the course has since hosted a number of high profile professional events and makes the most of its stunning setting. Moveable tees mean it is accessible to experienced and novice players alike while complete beginners can seek out advice from an expert team of PGA instructors on hand to offer private tuition.

Despite the solitude of the course, comfort isn’t far away. The Highland Laddie was formally a river boat on the Thames but now operates as a halfway house for golfers seeking refreshment. Players simply place their order at the beginning of the 9th hole and a member of the hotel’s concierge team will be waiting to serve drinks in the unique setting at the end of the hole.

Other activities available at the resort include loch cruises on the Celtic Warrior, pony trekking, fishing and clay pigeon shooting. A particular highlight, however, is taking a trip on a seaplane from the pontoon at Cameron House across the Scottish highlands.

Cameron House is only a short drive from Glasgow and offers a luxurious escape from everyday life. The five-star resort has 134 guest rooms with 26 suites enjoying views across Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park. The loch is the third biggest in Scotland and the park is home to 21 Munros – Scottish mountains with a summit of more than 3,000ft.
