One of Britain’s most historic and idyllic golf courses continues to improve the facilities it offers to members and clients. Last year the Prince’s Golf Club in Kent upgraded its Prince’s Suite restaurant, bringing it in line with the contemporary design found in the rest of the clubhouse.

With stunning views out across Sandwich Bay, Prince’s Golf Club boasts 27 holes, practice facilities, a centrally located clubhouse and overnight accommodation in the lodge as well as award winning dining.

With a menu created using the best local ingredients, the Prince’s Suite has always been a popular destination for members on the first floor of the clubhouse. Business Development Manager Ali McGuirk spoke to Premier Hospitality about the Suite’s new look:

“We decided to undertake the refurbishment mainly because the furniture that was in the restaurant previously had become quite outdated. We therefore wanted to change the furniture and move the layout of the room slightly.

“It had been a long time since the last makeover. The previous design was just a different style of chairs and colours. The colour scheme was a mix of coral and red whilst there was a set of mismatched chairs as some had been damaged over time.

“The room now has glass on three sides looking out across the golf course and the bay. The view is very much the key part of the room. As a whole we can now offer a modern country club style that is comfortable for golfers but also allows us to host functions such as carvery lunches for non-golfers. It was about finding the right balance.”

Ali added:

“With regards to the timescale for the project, I first visited the contractor in January 2016. We’d used them previously and it was easy to visit their warehouse and showroom. Once the financial side had been sorted we could then go ahead meaning the project was completed in June.

“To keep disruption to a minimum we basically worked through the night to turn the room around. We gifted a lot of the old furniture and sold some of it so we gradually had more space in the run up to the fit out. We had a corporate golf day the next day so we had to have the room up and running.”

With the capacity to seat up to 200 diners, the Prince’s Suite is a versatile space that can cater to a variety of needs. It provides an excellent alternative to the Club’s other main dining option, the 2AA Rosette Brasserie on the Bay.

Running along the South East coastline, golf lovers can make the most of three nine-hole courses, each with a rich individual history guaranteed to provide an enjoyable test. With 38 contemporary bedrooms, The Lodge offers high quality overnight facilities that add to the complete experience offered by Prince’s.

Reflecting on the Prince’s Suite refurbishment, Ali commented:

“The feedback so far has been great. It’s a much more pleasant and comfortable place to sit in and is more in keeping with our brand. It’s been well received. We’ve also been able to make simple savings because we’re not using such things like table linens.

“I think the room is now what our clients and members deserve. It’s a comfortable and contemporary space. We also have a hotel on site that had a complete refurb when it opened in 2012 and we felt that the upstairs of the clubhouse was not in keeping with the rest of the complex. The suite is now on par with other facilities in terms of design.”
