More than 100 jobs have been created in Nottingham with the opening of a Bierkeller Entertainment Complex in the city centre. Located in a prominent building on Nottingham’s busy Friar Lane, the Bierkeller will house three bars under one roof.

Having launched on St Patrick’s Day, the 24,000 sq ft complex is spread across three floors. Each floor has its own bar with each taking on its own theme. The basement houses a traditional Bavarian Bierkeller, the Around the World Bar & Lounge is located on the ground floor and Shooters, the UK’s premier sports bar, is on the first floor.

The company behind Bierkeller, Burning Night Group, owns similar venues in Birmingham, Cardiff, Leeds, Liverpool and Manchester. The Nottingham venue is the latest major investment for the Leeds-based company, which has enjoyed huge success across the country with its existing bars and restaurants specialising in a lively dining, drinking and live music experience.

To carry out the Nottingham project, Burning Night Group turned to architect and interior designer JS Design Partnership. Mick Jeffrey, lead designer on the project, spoke to Premier Hospitality about the work:

“We have completed five Bierkeller complexes; Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Cardiff and Birmingham. The basic template has therefore been established based on the experience of the build and operation of the previous ones. Each successive venue is refined and improved but there is a recognisable theme between each one.

“We began work on the project in late 2015. Production information began in mid-2016 and work on site started in late 2016. The project team who had just completed the Bierkeller Complex in Birmingham in late 2016 went straight to Nottingham.

“The major constraint with Nottingham was to create a Bierkeller in the basement. This had previously housed the kitchens and back of house operations. There was not the ideal headroom required to enable dancing on the benches with exposed cable trays and ventilation ductwork above. The ventilation had to be designed and hidden behind false walls and the lighting to be fixed to the soffits.

“We love working with Burning Night Group and enjoy their trust that we will produce a successful outcome.”

Allan Harper, CEO of Burning Night Group, said:

“We are keen to keep growing and look for cities where we feel we can offer something unique as a leisure destination. We saw a lot of potential in Nottingham so it made sense for us to choose it as our next site when we were looking to diversify in 2017.

“What the Bierkeller Entertainment Complex does is something different from what is already available. Because we have three venues under the same roof, we have something for everyone, and we believe we’ll be an exciting addition to the Nottingham night life.”

Isaac Mayne, head of marketing and promotions for Burning Night Group, added:

“In all three bars and restaurants we offer a fabulous selection of food and drinks, including the Bierkeller’s authentic Bavarian beers, and we’re known for our fantastic atmosphere. Of course Shooters has a great reputation amongst sports fans because we show all the major events live on our big screens so if there’s a must-see match our customers know they can watch it with us.”
