The Lanesborough Club and Spa

Lanesborough

One of the most luxurious and elegant hotels in London, the Lanesborough has recently launched its new exclusive lifestyle members’ club. The Lanesborough Club & Spa is a specially designed 18,000ft2 space that focuses on fitness, health and wellness.

Located near the iconic Hyde Park and Knightsbridge in London, The Lanesborough is a Regency landmark offering 93 rooms and suites perfect for a luxurious stay in the heart of the capital. The hotel is ideally set just a short walk from famous retailers such as Harrods and Harvey Nicols as well as granting easy access to some of the city’s most famous museums, galleries and theatres.

Plans for the club & spa began in 2013 with the project coming to completion in March of this year after extensive work. The leading contractor, Knight Harwood, worked alongside London based luxury design studio 1508 London to create a space worthy of the Lanesborough name.

“The project involved the refurbishment of an existing basement floorplate from offices to a luxury spa and private members club,” commented Louise Wicksteed, Creative Director and Partner at 1508 London.

“The design of the club and spa takes the best of the classical references of the hotel but also plays with more contemporary insertions and feature pieces. It’s a dynamic juxtaposition of classical heritage and contemporary design, which makes it very of the moment. The spaces are very atmospheric and have an understated grandeur to them which makes this interior a future design classic.”

Opened on Monday 13th March this year, The Lanesborough Club & Spa offers hotel guests and club members access to internationally recognised experts in the fields of fitness, wellness and lifestyle. “There are a multitude of different spaces in the club from wet and dry relaxation areas, thermal suites, a bar and restaurant, as well as a huge gym and private training studio,” added Louise.

Various luxury marbles and oak timber panelling have been used to create an interior that has different areas that complement each other and form one larger space. With each space having a completely unique feel, the décor is a sophisticated mix of grandeur and grace thanks to tactile materials such as silk, oak and leather.

“The reception has been thoughtfully designed with a palette of dark timber panelling and stone which gives a very British aesthetic and also creates a link with the hotel, where this material is also prevalent in the main entrance and reception. The restaurant is a place for rejuvenation and also to socialise. The colour palette was inspired by the rich blues and green found in the peacock feather as this is a symbol of renewal in many cultures.”

The spa offers numerous facilities with a range of treatments available for those wanting to relax and unwind. A hydrotherapy pool and gender specific thermal suites as well as four individual treatment rooms and VIP treatment room complete with double showers and Rasul make up the spa at The Lanesborough. Manicure and pedicure suites also take up a separate area within the Club & Spa giving guests privacy and a separate retail space offers products such as a face serum, body cream and candle created exclusively by ila for the Lanesborough Club and Spa.

La Prairie has also devised signature treatments exclusively for the spa along with Anastasia Achilleos who has personally trained all the spa’s therapists. The Lanesborough is the first hotel within the UK to offer the unique multi-platform treatment ‘The Anastasia Achilleos Method.’

The fitness space houses state-of-the-art technology and equipment including the latest from TechnoGym, a spinning area and pilates reformer machines. The fitness facilities allow members to tailor their work-out thanks to the range of equipment available to use and the expertise of the performance specialists available at the members’ disposal. A rig zone, free weights, benches, a Kinesis station and boxing equipment as well as a spacious fitness room for classes are accessible for members and guests.

Bodyism, the world’s first global wellness and lifestyle company, offers a Body Oracle session to all members for a truly bespoke wellness programme. The resident Bodyism trainers are also available for one-to-one sessions in the private personal training studio.

The Lanesborough Club & Spa offers its own restaurant with all-day healthy dining. The menu has been created by Michelin-starred chef, Eric Frechon, and Executive Chef, Florian Favario, in collaboration with the Clean & Lean nutritional plans from Bodyism. A private dining area is available which is ideal for eight to ten guests.

With a 360o approach to the wellbeing of modern Londoners living and working in and around the city, The Lanesborough Club & Spa is a luxury club for life.

The Lanesborough Club & Spa project has just been awarded practical completion and links with the prestigious Lanesborough Hotel. PSH Consulting Ltd is proud to have provided the Services consultancy for the complete refurbishment of the hotel and the creation of the Club &Spa.

Charlie Cross, Associate Director at PSH Consulting Ltd, said:

“We are delighted to have undertaken all the aspects of the mechanical, electrical, IT infrastructure and public health designs for The Lanesborough Club & Spa. The project was extremely challenging for a number of reasons.

“The Spa contains differing areas ranging from restaurants, treatment rooms, a gym, thermal and wet zones and relaxation areas. Each of these has vastly different acoustic and environmental requirements which had to be engineered into a spatially constrained footprint with challenging floor to floor heights.

“In addition to the environmental challenges the lighting designs and controls were an extremely important aspect of the project. The ambience created by the high class Regency style of the interior designs had to be supplemented with complex lighting and controls in each of the zones of the club.”

He added:

“As a company we pride ourselves in providing a personal touch for the client. We took great care to assemble the right project team to integrate with the client and professional colleagues alike to provide an enjoyable experience delivering a massively challenging project from concept to completion. It has been an amazing journey!”
