Construction of the platform structures and tracks for Elizabeth line services at Abbey Wood have been completed by Network Rail, marking another major milestone in the delivery of the new station. From December 2018, the new Elizabeth line service will begin and halve journey times to many central London destinations.

Construction of the new station building at Abbey Wood is advanced and will complete in autumn 2017 when the new station will open to Southeastern trains. The structure of the new ticket hall is complete with internal fit-out of the building underway. The roof structure, formed of timber beams and steel, is complete and a zinc cover is now being installed. Work is also continuing to install all the systems needed for the Elizabeth line including overhead electric equipment and signalling as well as seating, customer information screens and CCTV.

The new station at Abbey Wood will include:

  • A new, larger ticket hall and a spacious concourse that leads directly onto a wide forecourt connecting the station to the Harrow Manorway Flyover
  • New platforms for both Elizabeth line and North Kent services
  • Six lifts providing step-free access to all platforms
  • Better security and customer information systems

Matthew White, Surface Director at Crossrail said: “Construction of the new station at Abbey Wood will complete later this year. The new station will provide an improved experience for the thousands of people who use the station every day. The Elizabeth line will halve journey times to many central London destinations.”
