Borderers Guest House Comes Under New Ownership

Brecon guest house, The Borderers, has come under new ownership after buyers Gail Sequeira and Kevin Harrhy received a business loan of £ 245,000 from NatWest.

The guest house is now due to be renovated and modernised by Gail and Kevin, who plan to utilise the business to its full potential by opening The Borderers all year round.

As part of their development plans, the new owners will establish a friendly and comfortable environment for their guests and any pets who come to stay.

It is their hope to make the nine-bedroom guest house a flourishing presence in the town centre, and see increased tourism brought to the area as a result.

As Gail and Kevin explained: “We want to create a comfortable, warm and friendly space that showcases the best that the Brecon Beacons National Park has to offer. We plan to reduce our environmental impact as much as we can by harvesting rainwater to water our plants, and we have switched to locally produced toiletries from Myddfai. We are also going to start composting soon, among other things.

“Our aim is to provide modern amenities, whilst retaining the charm of the 17th century coaching inn. We hope that this helps to leave all our guests with lasting positive memories of their stay in Brecon.

“This is our first experience of running a business together, and is the fulfilment of a life-long dream. We’re very excited about what the future holds.”

Joanne Kinsey, Relationship Manager at NatWest, said: “The Borderers is a vital business for Brecon and it’s great to see that Gail and Kevin have such positive plans underway following their purchase. We are in no doubt of The Borderers’ continued success under their ownership.

“Gail and Kevin have been a joy to work with and I’m extremely pleased to have been able to support their lifetime dream of running a business together.”
