Covent Garden has long been at the centre of life in London with an eclectic mix of shops, restaurants and housing. Each year millions of tourists and locals pass through the area, sampling the rich culture, stunning architecture and distinct heritage. In recent years, however, opportunities to enjoy Covent Garden on a daily basis have arisen thanks to multiple residential development projects.

One such development is The Beecham, a collection of nine newly developed apartments including two incredible penthouses. Created by architectural practice PDP London for property investment and development company Capco, The Beecham has set a new standard for apartments in Covent Garden.

Completed in 2015, The Beecham has now received industry recognition with a RICS (London) Award nomination in the ‘Building Conservation’ category. Previously out-dated office space, the project was part of a wider scheme to improve and enhance the Covent Garden offering.

Before implementing the luxurious design, the seven storey building required extensive structural remodelling. Included within this was the demolition of existing internal walls and slabs, temporary works to retain facades and existing chimneys.

A new steel frame was also installed within the existing structure, adding a roof level to distinguish between the nine apartments and the ground floor restaurant. Accessibility was improved through the creation of a new lift shaft while brand new mechanical and engineering services were installed throughout the structure. Located on the corner of Henrietta Street and Southampton Street, the ground floor restaurant space is currently occupied by The Ivy Market Grill – a relaxed yet sophisticated all-day dining experience.

The two stunning Penthouse apartments housed in The Beecham offer glorious views across Covent Garden with intimate rooftop terraces as well as spacious open plan living and three bedrooms across a total of 2935 square-feet.

The other seven apartments vary in size between one and two bedrooms with contemporary interiors juxtaposing nicely with The Beecham’s classical exterior. When first entering the building through impressive double doors residents and guests are met by a marble lift lobby that hints at the level of quality prevalent throughout. Flooring in the apartments is a mix of European oak and Italian marble with the kitchen fitted out with state-of-the-art appliances.

Over the past decade Covent Garden has been transformed into a vibrant world-class destination for shopping and dining under the stewardship of Capco. Thanks to significant investment, Covent Garden and the wider area has been reinvigorated. The recent residential expansion is a major part of this revitalisation attracting more people to the area.

On the retail side, global brands such as Apple and Chanel mix alongside independent retailers while culinary delights include Gourmet Burger Kitchen, Boulevard Brasserie and Roka.

With other residential developments in the pipeline, The Beecham has set a standard by which luxurious living can be measured having transformed a historic and architecturally stunning structure.
