Café Football

The National Football Museum in Manchester is one of the city’s most popular attractions, welcoming thousands of visitors from around the world each year. The museum explores the history of football through world class exhibitions as well as boasting outstanding learning and community programmes. This love for the beautiful game has now extended to its culinary offering with the launch of Café Football.

The third site to open for the popular GG Hospitality brand, Café Football is located on the first floor of the museum with 75 covers and a spacious bar area. As part of its relaunch, Café Football at the museum has a new menu and a fresh look. Ideally located overlooking Cathedral Gardens, the café is not just aimed at museum guests but is also a great place for city centre visitors to drop in.

Work to transform the existing National Football Museum into Café Football began at the start of March 2017 and was finished at the beginning of June. Global design agency Checkland Kindleysides was responsible for the new look. A spokesperson for the company said:

“For this new site finishes and fittings have been retained from the original concept with some new additions unique to the site and a new, faster service offer. The convenience food and drinks service area features a communal bench style table, designed for customers who require a quick snack.

“Different types of seating are used in the main restaurant area, flooded with natural light from the full height windows. These offer various options to customers: Wrap around booths, banquette seating and freestanding furniture all create a flexible and sociable environment.

“Existing tiled flooring is retained in the long and narrow seating area and is blended with the new wooden floor from the brand palette to highlight the service area. As with the other café football venues, the distinctive brand graphics representing the universal football community bring the scheme together using colours, patterns and the language of football from wall graphics to menus.”

The food and drink menu is similarly unique, from the ‘Mara Doner’ pizza to ‘Andrea Ranocchia Bolognese’. Washed down with a ‘Ruud Bulleit’ cocktail, the Café Football experience is a must for any fan.

A spokesperson for GG Hospitality added:

“Since the conception of the Cafe Football brand we have always known it had the potential to be rolled out. To open a third Cafe Football is very exciting where it is a standalone site attached to a perfectly suited venue. On the back of this project we could refine the brand and all that it stands for and look to opening new sites where we can be seen on the High Street.”

The football themed restaurant and bar concept first opened in Stratford in 2013. This was then followed by the launch of Café Football Old Trafford within Hotel Football in 2015. For more information on Café Football, including upcoming events, please visit cafe-football.com.
