NHBC: The National House Building Council- Oak Country Manor

John scoops his 13th award
Scooping yet another NHBC Quality Award for his site and his team at Oak Country Manor – known as Crescent Link – in Co. Londonderry, is multi-award winning Taggart Homes site manager John Logue, who has now won an impressive set of 10 Quality Awards and three Seals of Excellence.
John, who puts his success down to years of experience, together with the hard work and excellent standards achieved by his associate managers, site team and subcontractors at Oak Country Manor, said: “It was great for us to get recognition for doing a good job. I am just a cog in the wheel and winning this award was largely down to the efforts of the great team on site – from management through to contractors and subcontractors alike.
“I won my first Quality Award in 2003 and it is brilliant to continue getting recognition.”
He puts his success down to “Just getting the whole team working together, setting appropriate, individual standards for everyone so that everybody knows what is expected of them and delivers the right results. It is also important to treat everyone with respect and to praise good work.
“Winning this award reflects well on both the company and the site team. Aiming for a Seal of Excellence in November is our next target.
“But the most important people of all that we need to please are, of course, the purchasers themselves.”
John, who has worked in the construction industry for 40 years, began his career as a bricklayer at the age of just 16, before rising through the ranks to management status. He has been working for Taggart Homes for 17 years.
Oak Country Manor is a development of 250 houses in a mixture of three and four bedroom detached and semi-detached house types.
Currently there are 112 homes under construction with further phases to follow.
Oak Country Manor presents a truly unique location minutes away from the city centre, superbly located for a wide choice of amenities, including schools of all educational levels, shopping centres, retail parks, restaurants, bars and a whole host of leisure and entertainment facilities both indoors and outdoors.
Great care has been taken in the external finish of each home to create an inviting environment with landscaping that will mature over the short term.
Each home will have a large paved patio area with paved footpaths and door steps, and driveways will have a two coat layer of bitmac with a fine 6mm top layer of stone, creating an attractive and refined appearance.
Each home will have low level attractive planting providing a soft backdrop, with Boston Creepers changing from green to a dark strawberry red in the autumn and rear gardens will have high closed boarded fences, providing privacy with evergreen laurel or similar type hedging that will, over time, camouflage the fence –
providing a beautiful soft, mature garden.
At the front of each home (depending on location) there will be a beautiful wrought iron fence, along with an ornate wrought iron pillar with planting behind to create an instant boundary.
Gardens will be either sown or lawned with grass turf depending on the season.
Internally, many quality touches that have been added as standard include a careful and thoughtful selection of appliances, along with a choice of both contemporary and classical finishes creates both a functional and inviting space.
For example, key features in the kitchen include a Silestone Quartz stone worktop with matching splash back in a choice of colours. Silestone is a non-porous surface and highly resistant to stains from coffee, wine, lemon juice, olive oil, vinegar, makeup and many other everyday products.
An induction hob offers greater energy efficiency and rapid warm up times, along with the additional safety feature of cooling down immediately when not in use. Extremely fast and responsive with the ability to accurately control the power, induction hobs contain a strong electromagnet positioned under the surface of the hob. When a suitable pan is placed on it, a circuit is created which begins a rapid and even transference of heat to the base of the pan and its contents.
The hot water tap provides instant boiling water, removing the need for a kettle in the kitchen, as well as filtered drinking water, helping to eliminate lime scale and other contaminants.
The waste disposal unit offers a convenient and environmentally responsible answer to the growing problem of food waste. Time is saved dealing with messy food waste that would otherwise encourage odours and germs – and less trouble spent emptying bins.
Additional appliances include an integrated dishwasher, integrated washer dryer (replaced by separate free standing washing machine and tumble dryer in utility room where applicable), and integrated fridge freezer
Bathrooms and en suites are fitted with modern premium quality sanitary ware, including a shower/bath, combining a purposely designed bath and integrated shower facility with full glass screen and thermostatic drench head shower.
Bathrooms also incorporate a vanity unit with high end wash hand basin, storage and ‘waterfall’ open spout tap.
Within the lounge, a beautiful Henley wood burning stove with a quartz hearth and surround has been chosen to provide a key focal point.
The lounge ceiling has a raised well in the centre with recessed ambient mood lighting. This is complimented by down lights switched from dimmers to enhance mood or ambience at any time of day or night.
Floor finishes include unique tiles sourced from Spain, which add a quality finished look to each home. Hallways, WCs, kitchens, utility rooms (where applicable) and bathrooms will have floor tiling.
