Coach at The Bull – Beaumaris

Dating back to the 15th Century, The Bull – Beaumaris is a Grade ll listed, Public House and boutique Hotel, located in a designated area of natural beauty in Beaumaris, Anglesey. With a popular traditional pub as well as an award wining, fine dining restaurant, The Bull’s owner, David Robertson, decided it was time to refresh the interior of their existing 90 cover ‘Brasserie’ and offer customers a new al-fresco dining area within the historical, previous Coaching Inn’s, Courtyard.

Design and Architectural studio, turnerbates, were appointed to create a new brand and design for the refurbishment of the, ‘The Brasserie’ with a brief to develop a relaxed dining experience within a warm and inviting environment, extending the restaurant out to the courtyard. turnerbates wanted to create a design concept which incorporated the history of the building, creating a clear link to The Bull, whilst still keeping a contemporary feel. ‘Coach’ was proposed as the new name in reference to its previous use in the 18th and 19th Centuries as a Coaching Inn, and a logo was designed to reflect the new design theme and brand identity.

A rich and warm palette was utilised throughout creating a soft and sophisticated environment. Eggshell paint was used to emphasise the sculpted texture on the walls, the green complimenting the original stone and oak features. A bull heritage wall was created with reference images such as original architectural plans and local historic photos and copper accents were also used throughout to echo the traditional copper artefacts seen within the pub. Bric-a-brac and details such as table plants, scatter cushions and upholstered seats help with the acoustics moving away from the previous ‘hard’ feel of the interior creating a ‘homely’ environment.

The original oversized bar was reduced and re-clad allowing an increase in covers and functionality within the restaurant and more of a variety of seating such as a sharing table and the now, very popular booths. The back bar was designed to showcase their ever expanding extensive Gin and Wine selection, with the use of vibrant yellow tiles to draw your eye to the display.

The courtyard, previously used as a car park/driveway, has been transformed into a welcoming alfresco dining area for the restaurant. New paving was introduced, alongside planting and fixed and loose seating. To allow the area to be used all year round, Jumbrella’s were selected along with heating and details such as candles, cushions and blankets.

David Robertson, the owner, is delighted with the results which have ‘exceeded expectations’ in terms of both project design and delivery. The Coach at The Bull – Beaumaris, is trading exceptionally well with fantastic feedback from customers on the new environment and a noticeable increase in dwell time.
