Terence O’Rourke, an award-winning planning and design consultancy, has secured approval for a state-of-the-art £60 million Mercedes-Benz dealership and regional distribution hub in Stockport.

The proposal to redevelop Brighton Rd Industrial Estate, a vacant 4.5 hectare brownfield site adjacent to the M60 Manchester Outer Ring Road in Stockport, has gained unanimous approval this month by Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council’s planning committee.

The iconic development will comprise of two buildings with a new signature 12,292 square metre showroom, 32 workshop bays, MOT centre, and an 11,790 square metre car storage and preparation building. Key features of Terence O’Rourke’s innovative landscape design include a garden roof terrace and green walls.

The move will safeguard and create much needed jobs in the area with an estimated 769 jobs during construction and 79 jobs during final operation. It will also be an important landmark building at the gateway to Stockport.

Members of Stockport Council’s planning committee were fully supportive of the proposal saying: “we more than approve this scheme, we give it our blessing.”

Simon Ible, senior planner at Terence O’Rourke, said: “This has been a complex process seeking consent from a number of parties including utilities companies, Natural England, the Environment Agency and the Health & Safety Executive to name but a few.  We also undertook public consultation to achieve support for the development.”

Terence O’Rourke submitted the proposals for the Mercedes-Benz development on behalf of client LSH Auto Properties (UK) Ltd and the news comes in hot off the heels of another win for a similar £20 million dealership in Solihull.

The planning and design consultancy, which has offices in London and Bournemouth, helps to deliver exceptional projects across a wide range of sectors including education, energy, infrastructure, leisure and tourism, industry and R&D, regeneration, residential, specialist and bespoke housing as well as retail and town centre developments.
