The Liverpool Collection Lounge

The Liverpool Collection Lounge – the new VIP bar at Echo Arena Liverpool – has opened its doors. The entertainment venue recently unveiled a new mezzanine floor inside the arena concourse which has been transformed into a stunning hospitality space with spectacular views across the waterfront.

Work on The Liverpool Collection Lounge was undertaken by 442 Design.

Speaking to Premier Hospitality magazine about the project, Michael Cousins, Head of Interior Design at 442 Design said: “From the outset we wanted The Lounge to have a premium look and feel. People expect something special when they visit a VIP bar, and at 442 Design we were determined to deliver something that would compete aesthetically and operationally with any VIP experience within the UK.

The project brief neatly summed up what was required – the bar had to be eye catching, and represent both the Echo Arena and Liverpool. The city is world famous for its culture, particularly pop music, so we were keen to incorporate this into the overall experience. One example of this is that within certain areas of the VIP lounge you are face to face with these striking hand-applied images of music artists from different eras who have played at the venue.”

The Liverpool Collection Lounge includes many unique features designed by 442 Design. These include a striking wave-shaped light installation above the bar which takes inspiration from the River Mersey and artwork featuring portraits of singers who have performed at the arena such as Katy Perry, Beyoncé and Paul McCartney. A centrepiece installation of a white neon sign featuring Sgt Pepper lyrics also lights up the back wall of the bar.

Michael added: “The bar light installation is one of the standout features. It has 180 fittings which all had to be measured and set out by 442 Design, so it’s very bespoke to the venue. There isn’t another feature light that looks like this in terms of its scale, pattern and wave. Another design element of the light is that as you approach the Arena from the Albert Dock you can see this feature and it signals the unique atmosphere of the lounge from a distance.”

Earlier this year, Echo Arena signed a three year naming rights and supply deal with Halewood Wines & Spirits and are selling a range of drinks from Halewood’s premium quality spirits portfolio including Liverpool Gin and Liverpool Vodka.

Ben Williams, Commercial Director of The ACC Liverpool Group, which includes Echo Arena said: “The Liverpool Collection Lounge will enhance our range of hospitality offers at Echo Arena, particularly for visitors such as couples and small groups who wish to treat themselves.

“The lounge offers magnificent views of the waterfront and a contemporary space for guests to relax, drink and dine in luxury surroundings before watching a concert, comedy or sporting event at our venue.”

The Lounge is also available for private hire outside of event nights.

Echo Arena Liverpool has a capacity of 11,000 and has hosted a range of high profile events including the MOBO Awards 2010 and 2012, the European MTV awards, BBC Sports Personality of the Year, and Sir Paul McCartney.

Michael concluded: “The project has been extremely important to 442 Design and it’s fantastic to add another music venue to our portfolio. From a personal point of view, it was great working in Liverpool as it is my home city.  The Arena is a very unique venue and I’ve enjoyed working as part of the team to deliver this excellent VIP experience.”
