Slug and Lettuce Investment with a northern accent

Restaurant chain Slug and Lettuce is investing strongly in its northern portfolio – including the recent refurbishment of its Liverpool venue, as well as opening a brand new site in Manchester Piccadilly.

Both schemes were carried out by Myriad Contracts Ltd, with Fusion by Design as interior designers and QS Management as project managers.

Works at both venues were completed within a tight timescale and commenced with a comprehensive internal strip out.

Re-opened in September following a £340,000 upgrade, the 240 sq m Slug & Lettuce in North John Street, Liverpool is set out across two floors plus a basement lounge.

The interior sports many new features including light, bright colour scheme, timber ceiling rafts with integral planting; open-front ‘birdcage booth’ seating areas for groups of 8 – 10, a new cocktail masterclass station, updated terrace area as well as a downstairs Ciroc lounge open on Fridays and Saturdays.

Externally, glass and white washed cladding and planting adds a further touch of sophistication.

Newsha Missaghi of Fusion by Design said: “A particularly interesting element of this project was working alongside the creative team at Diageo to create the Ciroc lounge, which was great.”

According to the Slug & Lettuce: the venue provides “The perfect destination for lunch, dinner, after-work drinks and late night partying. With a 250 capacity club in our secret basement, there’s plenty of room for those who want to dance the night away.”

Also launched in September following a £299,000 refurbishment, is the new Slug & Lettuce Manchester Piccadilly.

The venue spans two floors – 170 sq m on the ground and a 90 sq m mezzanine. Key elements of the design include dramatic double height lighting features to windows and a 58 sq m external ‘secret’ terrace to the rear, complete with covered pergola.

According to Slug & Lettuce “The bar brings an extra layer of sophistication to the commuter hot-spot, it is the go-to place, whether it is for a ‘get together’ with the girls, a drink after work, or the first stop on an outbound journey.

“The outside seating area – known to some as Manchester’s best kept secret – provides the perfect outdoor setting no matter the weather.”

Externally, the venue is resplendent with new glass and bronze coated cladding and external planting.

Newsha Missaghi said: “One of the challenges of this scheme was the fact that we had to wait for the landlord to finish the re-development of the building and complete the meditation garden to the rear before starting works, in order to avoid opening to the public with a full scaffold erected.

“It was great to bring the new design concept into both of these sites and see the massive transformation come to life.”

In line with Slug and Lettuce bars across the country, the new locations have an extensive beer, wine and cocktail offering, as well as a selection of hot and cold foods, including: fried jalapeño slices, cured meat antipasti and lemon and lime tart wedges.

The Slug & Lettuce evening menu at both venues includes: Battered cod and chips British beef & ale pie; grilled halloumi; tortilla salad; lasagne; smothered chicken; Chicken Tikka Masala; Cumberland sausages and mash; 10oz rump steak; Chicken Caesar; tortilla salad; asparagus & pea ravioli and much more. In addition, there are fabulous cocktails and delicious wines, world lagers and beers on offer – served in a comfy, safe, welcoming environment.

Slug & Lettuce have over 70 bars across the country – and from a relaxed daytime setting, each venue transforms into a lively night time spot, perfect for meeting friends, dancing, holding parties and listening to great music

Each Slug & Lettuce venue is different and offers entertainment loved by their own customers.

The bars are designed for a youthful clientele, and aim to attract an equal number of women as well as men with “female friendly” designs. The chain has remained relevant by continually re-inventing itself for the contemporary marketplace.
