A multi-million pound development in the heart of London that will result in high quality student accommodation is making excellent progress. When the project is eventually completed in June 2019, an additional 412 student rooms will be available in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets.
Construction is currently being undertaken by HG Construction on behalf of Scape Living. The development comprises of four towers in two main blocks, East and West. Each tower will then be connected by a four storey linking block. The rooms are a mixture of studio rooms and cluster flats that, like all Scape Living developments, will feature a stylish, contemporary design that maximises space. Alongside the rooms, the new development will also include a 1 storey bicycle storage area, a number of communal areas, study areas, and a gym in the East block.
Having started construction on the project in June 2017, the structure is already beginning to take shape. Premier Construction recently caught up with Declan Martin from HG Construction to find out how work is progressing on site:
“Everything so far has been positively fast paced. The RC frame is slightly ahead of schedule along with the ground works. Overall progress is moving along nicely and we’re looking to bring the structural steel packages and the SFS packages in before Christmas which, again, is ahead of programme.”
“The main shell is a reinforced concrete frame. With a façade comprising of a mixture of perforated cladding panels and black brickwork. Ground Floor south elevation will consist of mainly curtain walling”
“Logistics is and will continue to be the biggest challenge on the project. The site is extremely tight and now that the frame is up we have even less space. Coordination and planning of deliveries is key and we are also extremely close to the mainline that runs into Liverpool Street Station.”
Commenting on the importance of the project, Declan added:
“Scape is a returning client of ours. This is my first job with HG although they’ve previously completed a number of projects with Scape. Obviously, this is massively important for myself, I want to deliver a good project on behalf of HG as well as maintain the continued positive relationship between HG Construction and Scape Living.”
Within a stone’s throw of Queen Mary University, the new development will be hugely beneficial to both potential students and the local economy. Scape have a successful similar development nearby; this new accommodation will build on this already established reputation.
