Jersey Gas – Fuelling expansion

A superb new state of the art headquarters for Jersey Gas has just been completed at La Rue Phillipe Durrell, La Colette, providing a stunning new 24/7 operational base for the company.

Main Contractors for the development were Mitchells; architects were Axis Mason and project managers were Colin Smith Partnership.

The new building was constructed on a brownfield site within an industrial area, where initial site works included the demolition and clearance of a number of old buildings.

The approximately 450 sq m new building houses the company’s 60 staff, including the sales, customer service and maintenance teams.

The building includes a single storey section housing the staff accommodation and a two storey storage facility. Externally, there is a substantial operational yard, including space for equipment storage, car parking and an Autogas self-service LPG dispensing facility.

The steel framed building features external elevations in cladding and a pitched fabricated aluminium roof.

Internally, the building incorporates open plan office areas, individual office suites, storage areas, meeting and training rooms and staff refreshment and breakout areas.

Environmentally friendly features of the building include a gas operated panasonic single phase heat pump which provides heating and cooling and is the first of its type on the island. Energy efficient lighting controlled by movement sensors helps ensure economical operation, and an array of solar panels on the roof, backed by a gas boiler to provide hot water also helps significantly reduce energy consumption.

Stuart Crossman, Director of International Energy Group, the parent company of Jersey Gas said: “The main challenge of the project was the clearance of the site. We have used all local contractors and the team did a great job, on time and on budget. The staff are also very happy with their new environment.

“The new offices will help increase operational efficiency and will also help showcase our products from a customer perspective.”
