Vintry & Mercer – New hotel with historic echoe

Inspired by the historic past of its site – where vintners traded fine wines and mercers traded fine silks, Vintry & Mercer is a brand new independent hotel, nestled in Garlick Hill at the heart of the City, among the livery halls, guilds and narrow streets that line the banks of the Thames.

Vintry & Mercer is where past and present intersect, where the long traditions of trade and commerce come to life in the hotel’s stunning beautifully designed interior.

Situated just a two-minute walk from London’s Cannon Street station, in the historic Vintry Ward, the hotel will open in summer 2018.

From its bedrooms across five different room categories, to its three distinct food and beverage destinations, the rich cultural influences of two of the City’s historic guilds – Vintry and Mercer – can be seen throughout the hotel with its carefully considered design and décor.

Vintry & Mercer’s bedrooms range from intimate doubles to suites with glass-panelled balconies that look over London’s Southbank skyline. Rooms have been designed with attentive touches, including bespoke velvet headboards, rich textile furnishings and artwork inspired by the historic guilds.

Ideal for the modern traveller, amenities in all rooms include complimentary Wi-Fi, tea-making facilities and soft drinks, 24-hour room service, LED TVs with movies on demand, laptop safe, air conditioning, and a Nespresso machine. Marshall speakers will feature in Superior rooms and above.

Vintry & Mercer will boast three unique dining and drinking experiences. Guests can explore the underground cocktail bar, sample small plates from the ground floor’s Vintry Kitchen or enjoy views of the capital at Mercer Roof Terrace.

Vintry Kitchen, a neighbourhood restaurant and wine bar, sits at the heart of the hotel with an open-plan setting that flows into the main lobby and reception area. Its menu will be accompanied by a carefully-selected list of wines by the glass from a dedicated wine gantry and wine barrels. The room is relaxed and informal in design, with geometric tiled floors, urbane fittings, marble-topped tables and leather banquette seating.

Travelling to the elegant Mercer Roof Terrace, guests will be able to take in visions of glass with views of London’s skyline, where old architecture meets new. The Terrace will feature a covered, glass-walled area as well as an outside area.

With a charcoal oven, infused spirits and a farm-to-plate ethos, the menu on Mercer Roof Terrace will celebrate fresh British ingredients that guests can enjoy inside or al fresco in the outside area.

DND (Do Not Disturb) is hidden away beneath the hotel with its own private entrance off the cobbles of Garlick Hill. The discreet, underground and sophisticated speakeasy cocktail bar takes inspiration from the clandestine bars of 1920s New York, with speciality barrel-aged and vintage cocktails, alongside a luxe menu of small plates. With 60 covers, DND can be accessed via a dimly lit tunnel entrance, whilst a guestroom door will allow residents of the hotel to enter directly.

Vintry & Mercer will have a number of spaces for guests and visitors, including a breakout area with computers and three private event spaces, the largest of which will have capacity for up to 28 guests.

It will also boast a gym kitted out with the latest equipment from Life Fitness, an integrated digital screen, free internet access and iPhone docks.

Vintry & Mercer is committed to ensuring it is eco-friendly and so, along with solar panels and a green roof, the hotel will bring nature in with vibrant plants and trees which will be complemented with green colour accents to promote a feeling of calm.

Vintry & Mercer is comes from the team behind South Kensington’s The Ampersand Hotel and is an independent hotel, part of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, a collection of over 520 hotels in more than 80 countries.
