Inspiration on tap at RDE
From showcasing the worldâs best visual merchandising projects, products and services, to identifying the next generation of talent in retail design and providing a platform for the industryâs leading lights, thereâll be something for everyone at Retail Design Expo (RDE).
RDE, which takes place on 2-3 May at London Olympia, will be hosting more than 75 free conference sessions, as well as announcing the winners of the International  VM Awards, Innovation and Trail Awards and the Retail Design World Student Awards. Alongside its extensive supplier exhibition, delegates will be able attend panel discussions, creative networking events and demonstrations at the show.
The conference programme encompasses four theatres and includes an exciting line-up of over 90 speakers, including a panel discussion around âwhat the future holds for the VM industryâ moderated by Editor-in-Chief of VMSD, Jennifer Acevedo. Daphne Dutilleux, Retail Design and VM Director at L’Oreal Luxe will give insight into âLaunching House99 by David Beckhamâ, whilst Danielle Pinnington, MD of Shoppercentric will give retailers the lowdown on how to âget under the skin of Gen Zâ.
Of the three award ceremonies taking place at the show, The Innovation Trail and Awards rewards those exhibitors whose products, services and solutions will shape the retail and brand landscape. The awards are judged by a panel of industry experts and the winner will be announced on the first day of the show.
Shortlisted exhibitors will be featured in the dedicated innovation area, as well as receiving a special stand certificate to identify them as part of the trail, which leads delegates around the exhibition to the Innovation Winners Wall.
The shortlist for the 2018 International VM Awards, which recognises and rewards the best examples of window dressings, POP and displays across all sectors and seasons, has now been announced.
The awards comprise 10 categories and attracted more than 140 entries from leading brands from around the world. All shortlisted entries will be displayed at the show and winners will be announced on 3rd May at 1.20pm in the VM Conference Theatre. The shortlist is available on the RDE website.
Professionals wonât be the only ones to be recognised at RDE as the Retail Design World Student Awards seek to celebrate and promote the industryâs future stars.
For the fourth year, the awards seek to inspire and inform the next generation of store designers by setting live briefs in partnership with major retailers and brands. Participating universities for 2018 are: University of Huddersfield, which worked on a brief from Kingfisher; Glasgow School of Art and Ravensbourne, both of which are tackling a brief from KFC; and Manchester Metropolitan University and Westminster University, which are answering a brief from Red or Dead. Winners will be announced on the first day of the event.
Sarah Adams, RDE Event Manager said: âOur conference programme and awards are designed to reflect RDEâs reputation as a vibrant hub for innovation within retail design, marketing, branding, visual merchandising, architecture and shopfitting.
âThe innovation Trail and Awards seek to reward our own exhibitors helping visitors to identify those companies at the forefront of the industry; the International VM Awards celebrate the very best visual merchandising the world has to offer, whilst the Retail Design World Student Awards seek out the stars of the future.â
Other popular initiatives will also be retained, including the Innovation Trail and Awards, Designer Pavilion and the Champagne Bar, sponsored by SMP Group.
