CLEAN and PPHE Hotel Group Link-Up Sees One of Sector’s Largest Use of RFID

Leading independent laundry provider CLEAN has announced a new partnership with PPHE Hotel Group, which will see one of the largest implementations of radio-frequency identification (RFID) technology between a hotel brand and a laundry service provider in the UK.

CLEAN will initially launder bed linen and towelling and supply table cloths and napkins for eight of the group’s Park Plaza hotels nationwide including its six London hotels and Nottingham and Leeds properties. There are plans to extend the service to other Park Plaza hotels as well as supply chefs wear in the future.

PPHE Hotel Group, which has a portfolio of 39 owned, leased, managed and franchised hotels with two new London-based art’otels in the pipeline, has equipped both its linen, which is constructed from a 100% cotton high thread count fabric and features an attractive decorative festoon, as well as its Park Plaza UK managed properties with the latest RFID technology.

RFID is transforming the efficiency of the laundry sector as it allows both CLEAN and PPHE Hotel Group’s housekeeping team to identify, locate and track every individual piece of their quarter of a million-items stock – no matter which stage they are in of the delivery, collection and laundering process.

The level of accuracy resulting from RFID will allow PPHE Hotel Group to be in complete control of its stock flow and ordering requirements. Soiled items will be counted by the installed RFID scanners, which automatically informs and allows CLEAN to schedule collection and deliveries of the precise quantity of items required, so the amount of superfluous stock required or held by the hotels is reduced.

Jayne Davis, Purchasing Director at PPHE Hotel Group, said: “PPHE Hotel Group is always keen to partner with truly innovative suppliers who are continually investing and pushing the boundaries with the very latest cutting-edge technology. CLEAN quickly demonstrated that it can enhance our guest’s experience by consistently offering the highest quality linen while also assisting our housekeeping staff.”

Steve Clarke, Chief Commercial Officer at CLEAN, added: “We are thrilled to be working with leading hotel company PPHE Hotel Group and its Park Plaza managed hotels. The group’s commitment to innovation and providing a quality experience to its guests is mirrored in our own key values. At CLEAN, we strive to provide each of our customers with the very latest and solutions coupled with first-class service to ensure we offer the most reliable and efficient service.

A commitment to efficiency is at the core of CLEAN’s service offering. As well as RFID technology implemented across its network of seven sophisticated laundries, CLEAN’s effective route planning enables it to utilise all its production facilities to offer an effective service. It also forms part of CLEAN’s commitment to sustainability, which to date has resulted in a 39% reduction in its overall carbon footprint.
