Roux at the Landau
Now in its tenth year, Roux at The Landau has celebrated this momentous anniversary by launching a new, informal dining concept. After closing for renovation in January, Roux at The Landau, has now reopened its doors for a soft launch, with the transformation being fully complete in early spring 2018.
Having worked on creating the restaurant’s original design in 2008, David Collins Studio were once again tasked with working on the space to match the new dining concept. Devised to expand on the continued success of the restaurant, The Studio have created and carved out a new dining experience, which evolves on the existing interior framework of The Studio’s 2008 design.
Under the direction of Design Director Lewis Taylor, The Studio’s new design focuses around the installation of a sleek timber clad, curved bar, which is anchored in the centre of the dining room; creating an instant focal point and offering a new dining experience within the space.
The front of the bar is clad with pale blue leather, which is set within a dark timber frame and finished with stud detailing and a crackle glaze surface. Flanking each end of the bar will be a showcase of British produce, including charcuterie and a display of cheeses, shellfish and champagne. Leather upholstered stools offer casual seating at the bar, and are upholstered in a lilac leather that reflects the existing colour palette within the original design of the room. The addition of low level aged brass lighting takes inspiration from the original David Collins Studio custom chandeliers hanging overhead and circles around the curved shape of the bar.
In the restaurant, The Studio have also designed new custom oak tables with leather and bronze details that mirror the timber of the new central bar. The entrance to the restaurant has also been re-configured with a new reception desk, which has been added to the wine vault at the entrance of the restaurant.
Lewis Taylor commented:
“It is great to add to, and evolve a project such as the Landau restaurant, which is now 10 years old. Having worked on the original design of the space, it is always a pleasure to come back to a project and see how it has evolved with time, and to add to it without taking much away from the original concept. We also have had a similar experience with Nobu Berkeley Street. It is a testament to the longevity of the design that 10 years on we are only adding to, and not completion a total refurbishment. The hotel has maintained the spaces immaculately.”
The menu at the revamped venue will be pared back with a focus on the provenance of ingredients. An extended wine list will feature 525 different offerings, all available by the glass. To find out more, please visit rouxatthelandau.com.
