Leading television company Satellite Information Services Ltd (SIS) has set up home in Salford Quays; moving its London based production and engineering operation to Media City UK.

SIS, which has had an office at Media City UK since 2006, operates the largest fleet of satellite uplink and outside broadcast units in Europe. SIS provides television footage and other media services to the betting industry, including live commentary and the betting information shown on screen.

The company provides a wide coverage of many major betting sports, such as UK and international horse racing and greyhound racing and also provides footage of football, including the exclusive rights to distribute official English and Scottish FA and FIFA football data.

Due to the completion of work on their new offices in May 2012, SIS has been able to bring many more of their services to Salford Quays.

The main contractor working on the project was international construction services company ISG, whose job it was to turn a bare shell fit building into a suitable area to house the office administration, technical and studio facilities. ISG recently completed construction work on the Velodrome for the London 2012 Olympic Games. The Velodrome was completed on budget and ahead of schedule, making it the first venue to be completed on the Olympic Park.

The main architect was Jenkins Design Services Ltd, situated in Bury, Greater Manchester

Farebrother Ltd, a Manchester based firm who were voted Electrical & Mechanical Contractor of the Year for 2007 and 2008, carried out the design and installation of the electrical and mechanical building services. They also carried out the enhanced power and cooling infrastructure works to facilitate the SIS requirements directly for Peel Media Ltd.

The SIS offices are spread across three floors in the South Tower at Media City UK; on levels eight, nine and ten. The tenth floor was converted into office space, whilst the eighth and ninth floors were fitted out to house SIS’s studios and electronic and transmission equipment. The project which began in November 2011 was completed in May 2012.

Ralph Wilson, Contracts Manager at Farebrother Ltd said:

“Before the start of the project, the South Tower at Media City UK was just a bare shell. In just over six months the three floors were completely transformed to provide both a quality work environment as well as a high resilience infrastructure to accommodate the high-tech requirements of SIS.”

Farebrother’s Building Services division specialise in the complete electrical and mechanical services associated with high quality fit-out and technical space, so were pleased to be able to use their expertise to help SIS create their new head office.

Ralph Wilson added:

“Every project is important to us, whether it’s worth £10 or £10 million. We had to use specialised knowledge and innovation to work on the project for SIS at Media City UK in terms of the high specification requirements for the mechanical and electrical work involved. As always, we also worked within our company values of partnership, quality, value and trust.

“We’ve been in business for over 50 years and have specialised in three separate divisions; building services, data technologies and process and environmental facilities. We have carved out an enviable reputation in all three areas and continue to provide a first class service within budget and on time.”
