New £4.5million care home to open in Treharris by spring

Bargoed House is a 32-bed residential care home which will offer 24-hour care and communal social facilities while allowing residents a degree of independence.

Spanning a 2,500 sq m, the building incorporates an extensive mechanical and engineering installation, including sprinklers and an extensive ventilation system. The care home has also been designed with environmental considerations.

Pick Everard were the design team behind Bargoed House and when asked about the project, Stuart Brisbane, who is responsible for business developments in Wales, said:

“The standard of the facilities that the council are getting are really top notch, they are the top end of the scale. The bedrooms, breakfast rooms and communal rooms will be far better facilities than what has been the case previously.

“There is also certainly the demand there for this facility – we have been pushing to get things finished as there are already people ready to move in.”

Willmott Dixon Housing were named the construction firm to take on the build – its first residential project in Wales.

Neal Stephens, managing director of Willmott Dixon in Wales, said:

“We are proud to now officially launch Willmott Dixon Housing as a regional offering, located in Wales and doing business across Wales to build upon national expertise on a very local level.

“We have already won our first residential project and are continuing to tender for sizeable projects within this market. As a firm, our turnover exceeded £100m within Wales in 2011 and our ambition is to grow Willmott Dixon Housing to account for a fifth of our business with a turnover of more than £20m.

“This represents our significant commitment to investing and growing the business within Wales where we continue to reinvest within the region – employing locally, using local suppliers and utilising local subcontractors to recycle the local pound.”

Delivering homes for people over 55 years old accounts for 25 per cent of Wilmott Dixon’s housing workload, ranging from sheltered accommodation and self-contained units to care homes with communal areas and retirement villages.

In the past three years the firm has created 1,500 homes tailored for this sector, including the recently completed Denham Garden Village.

Bargoed House is set to open its doors to residents in spring.
