Social central

Social Eating House - Jason Atherton - 58 Poland Street, London

Social Eating House serves up delicious British food with a twist and is the latest venture from top chef Jason Atherton – the culinary wizard behind Little Social.

The 126-cover restaurant is split over three levels – 70 covers on the ground floor, 56 covers on the first floor and a bar on the third floor – and is located at 58 Poland Street, London.

Commenting on the new site, Chef Atherton, said:

“I want it to be a social restaurant where the surroundings are as vibrant as the food. People will be able to enjoy a good meal that is good value.”

Work began on Social Eating House in December 2012 and reached completion in March 2013. Russell Sage Studio was the interior designer on Social Eating House, whilst 3 Interiors was the main contractor on the project. 3 Interiors have worked with world famous designers on several prestigious projects, including the Royal Suite at The Goring Hotel, where Kate Middleton stayed the night before the Royal Wedding.

Converted from a former Japanese restaurant, the design of Social Eating House includes a mix of dark panelled and concrete walls, banquette seating, mirrored ceilings, metal wine racks and reclaimed wooden chairs. The site includes a private dining area where guests can watch chefs preparing delicious dishes and a fully functioning bar known as Blind Pig.

The menu at Social Eating House features interesting and varied dishes, from ravioli of wild boar bolognaise, to crab, lettuce and tomato vinaigrette (CLT) and flamed cote de pork. Chef Atherton worked with Chef Paul Hood to create the menu, which is currently tantalising the taste buds of many a diner.

Meanwhile, in the restaurant’s bar – Blind Pig – mixologist Gareth Evans has worked on a special drinks menu which includes such imaginative concoctions as Scrub a Dub Dub and the Thermonuclear daiquiri.

Commenting on their involvement with Social Eating House, Brian Stevenson of 3 Interiors, said:

“Although we have reworked the internal spaces of the restaurant we didn’t undertake any real structural works. However the design of the restaurant has changed completely from what it was to what it is now. We took this from a bare shell and created something truly unique.

“We have worked with Russell Sage Studio on a number of projects in the past and it was great to work alongside them on this site for Jason Atherton. Our experience with Russell Sage Studio was very helpful as we completed a number of works which we hadn’t undertaken before so this required a little bit of thought to get it just right.”

Brian added:

“Working on Social Eating House was a great experience for us. We have worked on quite a number of sites in this area of London, but this continues to raise our profile.”
