RG Falla go the extra mile

RG Falla Marathon

RG Falla has raised more than £3,000 for Les Bourgs Hospice after taking part in the Quarter Marathon.

The popular six mile run from Vazon to L’Eree and back again, has raised thousands of pounds for charity over the last 12 years. This year, over 200 runners took part and raised £3,284.

RG Falla Joint Managing Director, Peter Gregory, said:

RG Falla is proud of its continued support of Les Bourgs Hospice and we are delighted that we are able to present them with a cheque for more than £3,000. Some will be used to purchase a new water cooler with the remainder being used to continue providing the invaluable support it does to islanders at a time when they need it the most.

Having been the main contractor on the new building, we have a real understanding of just how vital the service they provide is to Guernsey and so it’s fantastic that we can organise an event which allows islanders to support that work.”

The run, which took place in damp conditions on Sunday 19th May 2013, was open to both individual runners and teams. Team entries needed to include four or more runners and the team’s time was calculated using the fastest four runners in each team.

Prizes were presented to Tristan Robilliard who was the fastest male after completing the race in 37.11 minutes, Kerry Robin won the female prize with a time of 44.03 minutes and team prize went to Geomarine with a collective time of 2 hours 40 minutes and 20 seconds.

Hospice director Jo Boyd said the support of events like the RG Falla Quarter Marathon were absolutely essential.

Jo added:

Our sincere thanks go out to RG Falla for organising and covering the costs of this event, and to all the runners who turned out in the rain to raise these much needed funds. Every year, we face the challenge of trying to raise £800,000 through the generosity of islanders and so events like these are invaluable in helping us overcome that challenge.”
