Gateway to success

Located on the north bank of the River Thames, London Gateway Port is an impressive project currently taking shape under the guidance of ISG.

The project, which sees facilities created for DP World – the team behind the 1,000 acre site – comprises a large deep water port with the ability to handle some of the largest container ships in the world.

Work began on the project in 2010 and is being completed in phases. Once work is complete on the London Gateway Port project, the development promises to be the UK’s first 21st Century major deep sea container port, as well as Europe’s largest logistics park.

Commenting on the importance of the project, Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, said:

“London is set to regain its position as one of the world’s greatest ports, and establish itself once again as a gateway to world trade. This gargantuan site will create tens of thousands of jobs in our capital and the South East, whilst helping to drive continued prosperity for the rest of the UK. DP World’s investment is a huge boost to the economy and a massive vote of confidence in London’s future.”

DP World Vice Chairman Jamal Majid Bin Thaniah, added:

“London Gateway is a unique development for the UK, bringing DP World’s values of delivering excellent supply chain solutions for our global customers.”

London Gateway Port is a world class facility which is being developed to become the UK’s most efficient port, adding an additional 3.5 million TEU containers to the nation’s port capacity. With increased capabilities London Gateway Port will allow global brands to move from away from conventional distribution methods.

As part of the work at the port, new offices and associated welfare areas are being created. Materials used include facing brickwork, suspended ceilings, timber studded partitions, plasterboard and aluminium framed windows. Finishes include floor screeding and plaster and dry lining for walls.

DP World is one of the world’s largest marine terminal operators, with 49 terminals in its portfolio and a professional team of almost 30,000 people. DP World develops project in key growth markets, including India, China and Middle East, with its flagship Jebel Ali facility in Dubai being voted Best Seaport in the Middle East for 14 consecutive years.
