Completing the Whiteleaf Centre

Manor House Hospital project, Aylesbury, Oxford

Work to provide Buckinghamshire with a new health and wellbeing campus is nearing completion.

The Whiteleaf Centre in Aylesbury – which has been implemented by Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust – has been designed to transform mental health service provision in Buckinghamshire. The new centre is a purpose built design to meet the needs of patients with mental health issues needing inpatient and community based care. The centre comprises 80 beds and associated facilities and is situated on Bierton Road.

In order to deliver the project, the existing site has been redeveloped with new access points installed. Once complete, it will provide the inpatient mental health services and community base for teams working in and around the Aylesbury and North Bucks area. The new centre promises to provide a significant improvement on the existing services which are in operation at the Tindal Centre and the John Hampden Unit.

Nightingale Associates is providing all architectural services on the project, whilst Kier Construction is the main contractor.

The Whiteleaf Centre is being constructed from a steel frame, with a single ply roof. The main materials used to construct the building include render, profiled cladding and a mix of curtain walling system, aluminium profiled windows and safety glass.

Safety and security measures have also been carefully considered, so the Whiteleaf Centre includes detection and alarm systems, door entry systems, CCTV and fencing. A mix of soft and hard landscaping work also forms part of the project. Terra Firma Consultancy Limited is the landscape architect on the scheme.

The handover of the site from building contractors Kier to Oxford Health FT took place on the 17th January 2014. There is now a commissioning and equipping stage, which will be followed by a phased move of staff at the end of February and patients in March.
