In the spotlight: Canary Wharf Contractors Ltd

Canary Wharf Contractors

As a dedicated construction contractor, Canary Wharf Contractors Ltd manages and delivers all of Canary Wharf Group’s construction projects, through an integrated framework.

Working as project manager and main contractor, Canary Wharf Contractors Ltd is responsible for the entire programme of works, delivering projects within set time frames and budgets.

Canary Wharf Contractors Ltd manage and incorporate tenant requirements in the design and delivery of each project; manage the levels of safety and quality; and commission building systems. When Canary Wharf Group is not the developer on a project, Canary Wharf Contractors Ltd is appointed as the construction manager and is integrated within the developer’s project team.

Canary Wharf Contractors Ltd has 275 members of staff, all bringing a wealth of experience to their roles. To date, the company has completed more than 15 million sq ft of high quality office space, with clients in sectors as diverse as publishing, medical, shipping, corporate banking and government.

At the start of each project, the company sets out a Project Execution Plan which includes the procurement strategy, project programme and associated works. Canary Wharf Contractors Ltd works on a collaborative basis and partners with the best specialist trade contractors to develop techniques which have been widely incorporated by the industry.

Past projects for Canary Wharf Contractors Ltd include Heron Quays; Canada Square; Churchill Place and Pan Peninsula. Meanwhile, current projects include Canary Wharf Crossrail station; 25 Churchill Place, Jubilee Place Extension and Wood Wharf.

Canary Wharf Contractors Ltd is also working on the Shell Centre project, a scheme which will see London’s South Bank transformed into a mixed-use development which contains a mix of homes, offices and retail space. Around 800,000 sq ft of office space will be created on the site, along with 790 new homes and 80,000 sq ft of retail units, restaurants and cafes.

The project is a joint venture between Canary Wharf Group and Qatari Diar and will showcase the Shell Centre Tower as its stunning centrepiece. Subject to planning permission, the project is scheduled to reach completion in 2019.
