These projects include health, education, social housing, defence housing and estates, and judicial and institutional schemes.

The team is particularly skilled at creating iconic structures and has displayed examples of bold engineering feats, hidden innovation and buried pipes and pumps. Balfour Beatty’s service range is vast seeing them offer the following to clients all over the world; programme and project management, construction management, project design, technical services, planning, consultancy, construction, highways services and asset management, structural strengthening, protection and repair, refurbishment, modular systems, fit-out and interiors, mechanical and electrical engineering, civil engineering, ground engineering and plant hire.

Balfour has carried out extensive works on London’s Power Tunnels installing high voltage electricity cables for National Grid’s London Power Tunnels project. The works began in 2013 and are due to be completed and functional by 2018. This project will rewire the capital via deep underground tunnels ensuring the capital city’s electricity needs continue to be met.

The situation of power cables in tunnels means that future maintenance works and network expansion projects can be undertaken with minimum disruption. Balfour are working with the Tunnelling and Underground Construction Academy in Ilford, East London, on the project organising schemes which offer local unemployed people training and employment opportunities.

The infrastructure company are utilising their patented Tunnel Cabling Machine (TCM) technology during the tunneling project. The TCM lowers the risk involved in installing high voltage cables in tunnels, as well as increasing the speed, efficiency and quality of installation. When Balfour have used this technology previously they have witnessed a project timescale be reduced by up to a third.
