Tick, tick, boom

Boom Burger, Portobello Road, London

Situated on Portobello Road, London, Boom Burger is a fantastic new restaurant serving up delicious burgers with a Caribbean flavour.

Inspired by Jamaican cuisine, the burgers promise to be some of the best in the capital city, with highlights including the Jamaican Boom and of course the Boom Burger!

Keen to find out what Boom Burger is all about, Premier Hospitality caught up with company owner Josh de Lisser, to talk about what puts the boom in his burgers.

“Boom Burger is all about Jamaican flavours, presenting a mash up between burgers and Jamaican cuisine. I grew up in Jamaica, so this is where my culinary influences came from. I undertook a cooking course, I worked in kitchens and this was always something that I wanted to do,” said Josh.

Josh took over the site – which was formerly a different restaurant – in December 2013, with grills being fired up for the first time in March 2014. This is Josh’s first venture, following a number of successful years running pop-up restaurants.

Boom Burger is located within one floor at 272 Portobello Road and as well as presenting guests with a comfortable setting for a sit down meal, the restaurant serves up a takeaway option too. Local butcher, H.G Walter is supplying all the organic meat to the restaurant, with delicious meals served up alongside rum cocktails and other tasty treats.

The restaurant was expertly designed, with Chameleon as the main contractor on the project.

Discussing the layout of the restaurant, Josh said:

“Guests walking into Boom Burger will be greeted by a counter, very much like an open-plan kitchen. Here guests place their order and are given a number, which is called out when their meal is ready.

“We have two different booths for seating, along with some stools. The colour scheme is red, gold and green, reflecting the traditional colours associated with Jamaica. We also have some very vibrant coloured menus.”

In addition to internal seating, an external seated area is available, allowing guests to dine al fresco.

Josh commented: “We have outside seating that’s covered, with room for twenty.”

The opening of Boom Burger is a dream come true for Josh, having worked hard over the past couple of years on a number of smaller venues.

Josh said:

“This site is incredibly important. I have put a lot of time into this over the years, opening pop-up sites for two years. Boom Burger has been a long time in the making, but it has been great to see it come together.”
