Whisky Mist on Mayfair

Whisky Mist & Rusty Nail, Hilton on Park Lane, Mayfair

Located within Hilton on Park Lane, Mayfair, Whisky Mist is a sophisticated bar and nightclub presenting guests with a luxurious setting and a fantastic range of premium whiskies and mixology cocktails.

The club – owned and operated by Brompton Brands (a luxury lifestyle company with a portfolio of bespoke nightlife and restaurant concepts) and site owner Hilton International Hotels (UK) Limited – recently benefitted from an extensive restoration and is now joined by a new addition, Rusty Nail.

M.Y. Studio, a boutique Interior Design firm specialising in premium F&B Concepts, was tasked with transforming and revamping the existing space which saw Whisky Mist updated and Rusty Nail installed. WFC was the fit-out contractor which carried out the recent refurbishment works and The Project Partnership was the project manager, coordinating and overseeing the entire scheme.

Keen to find a little more about the recent changes and what guests can expect from the new-look club, Premier Hospitality caught up with Mariko Yuki, Managing Director at M.Y. Studio to get the inside story.

Mariko said:

“I met Nick House of Brompton Brands four years ago when we were engaged by the principal to design Mahiki Dubai. There was an immediate positive synergy between us and the project was a great success. I was extremely pleased when we were again approached for the refurbishment of Whisky Mist London.

“The design brief was very simple – Nick told me that all of his other successful brands were heavily themed, but Whisky Mist was the only venue with no theme and no strong concept – it was just a contemporary nightclub. I was therefore, asked to design something different, something original, but something in keeping with the whisky heritage.

“The new concept goes back in time in order to move forward. We took inspiration from Scottish castles, gothic cathedrals and medieval alchemists, but kept the iconic whisky presence and added contrasting modern twists. Rusty Nail is an exclusive VIP venue catering to the more affluent clientele, whilst Whisky Mist is geared to the more mainstream public and is approximately twice the size of Rusty Nail.”

Whisky Mist and Rusty Nail opened to public on the 11th February 2014 and both have already received great feedback from guests.

“The feedback has been extremely positive from both the principal Hilton and the brand owners Brompton. Most projects often come with their own set of rules and difficulties and this one was no exception. But given the coordinated effort between all the related parties, those were successfully overcome. After the soft opening party on the 6th February we conducted a walk-around with our clients and they were mesmerised; they were very happy.” said Mariko. “That doesn’t happen very often,” she joked.

“Working on this project was extremely important to me on a personal level, as I was a regular at the original venue and due to the high profile nature of the venue and brand. When doing facelift projects, a designer needs to be very careful not to dilute the original idea but to find the elements that gave the original venue its essence and enrich them. This was a major opening in London for our own portfolio and I felt privileged to be a part of it. It’s a great brand in a great location – with great clients with emotional involvement.”

Mariko is now designing Whisky Mist Dubai – due to open in autumn 2014.
