 PF+A: Designing Guernsey

As one of the most successful architectural design practices in Guernsey, PF+A has over 20 years of experience in supporting their clients during every stage of the design and build process – from inception to completion.

The company’s substantial expertise ranges from traditional and contemporary design through to the technical skills needed to support the administration of construction. With a 14-strong team of interior designers, 3D modellers, technologists, technicians and site construction administrators, PF+A can tackle any challenge.

PF+A pride themselves on their personable, down-to-earth approach to client relationships and their unwavering ethos of integrity, pragmatism and diligence. Since PF+A was founded by Peter Falla in the early 1990s, the company has doubled in size and today works on some of the most prestigious projects throughout the island.

Recent projects for PF+A include The Pines, La Julienne and the soon-to-be-completed, Infinity Crescent project.

Situated on Stanley Road, St Peter Port, Infinity Crescent is set to become a stunning new development, comprising 11 affordable, contemporary homes. The two-bedroom houses will include a fantastic array of fixtures and fittings and will be ideal for first time buyers, downsizers or investors.

Each of the new units will include a stylish ground floor living area with integrated storage, kitchen and WC, whilst the first floor includes two spacious bedrooms and a shower room. The bedrooms will include Italian designer wardrobes, whilst the kitchen will include a full range of integrated high quality Siemens appliances.

In addition to the excellent features on offer inside the homes at Infinity Crescent, each unit has its own patio with hedge boundaries and access to a communal garden that will be installed into the centre of the curved development. Two underground parking spaces per dwelling are also being included as part of the landscaping work, along with an outdoor walkway that offers access to each property.

The site also includes the Georgian-style Infinity Terrace at the front, which is a run of four three-bedroom terraced houses and private fenced gardens. A new build one bedroom maisonette link-building is situated over an archway on the service road and has the same styling and high spec.

Infinity Crescent is now wind and water tight and joins The Pines and La Juliene, as projects which are going through the final stages of construction before reaching completion.

Located in the Cobo area of Guernsey, The Pines project comprises the construction of a single dwelling, replacing a former 1970s-style bungalow. The Pines includes four bedrooms, a media room, basement garage and benefits from great views over the bay.

Similar to The Pines, the La Julienne project comprised the demolition of a bungalow and the construction of a fantastic two-storey dwelling. The house sits high on a hillside overlooking Vazon Bay and includes four bedrooms, contemporary living spaces and a large double garage.

Two additional projects under construction are Holy Trinity and La Quatrieme. Holy Trinity is being constructed on a site formerly occupied by a church building, whilst La Quatrieme is a housing development comprising eleven dwellings.

Holy Trinity is a five-storey structure, comprising 11 flats and a ground floor car park. The flats are divided into three units between levels two to four, with two flats on the fifth floor. All of the flats include high specification fixtures and fittings.

P3 Projection Coatings carried out extensive works on the Holy Trinity project including the dry lining, plastering and painting, as well as applying a silicon and anti-crack render on the outside of the structure.

P3 Managing Director, Jason Smith, said:

“It was great to be involved with the Holy Trinity project because we work regularly for the clients and we enjoy being part of high end developments like this. We specialise in external renders, internal spray plasters and interiors.

“We pride ourselves on our delivery and always try to go the extra mile to cater to our clients’ needs. We always deliver the standard and quality required.”

La Quatrieme is a small development of houses which is due for completion in June 2014. Ideally located close to amenities such as The Bridge, as well as being a stone’s throw from the island’s beaches and common areas, each house includes two bedrooms, with the exception of a single, three-bedroom property.

PF+A Director, John Hibbs, commented:

We’ve got many projects on the go at any one time; with 35 new projects this year. Projects like these are a great way to move Guernsey forward. The island has progressed a great deal over the last twenty years, with some truly interesting projects getting off the ground.

Given the correct opportunity, designers now have more freedom to design some fantastic contemporary buildings. Guernsey has a truly exciting landscape.”
