In 2012, the Penrith based builder scooped two top industry awards including the Small Renovation Projects and Large Renovation Projects in the Northern Counties prizes. The Master Builder of the Year Awards recognises the best builders in the UK with firms all over the country coming from satisfied clients.

Carrock Design and Build won the Small Renovation Projects category for their work adding a walkway between two buildings at a property in Penrith. The company is the winner in the Large Renovation Projects category for their work converting a barn into a habitable home in Bassenthwaite, Cumbria.

Carrock are specialists in heritage and listed buildings and have carried out many renovations of the Lake District’s finest Lakeland Homes. The firm has a highly skilled in-house team of craftsmen which are experts in period properties. The company used a carefully balanced blend of the finest exposed hardwood joinery, along with honed stonemasonry, in order to produce flawless buildings.

Carrock’s team of experienced, long serving stonemasons and plasterers are skilled in a range of traditional techniques which restore, recreate and enhance the original style of Cumbrian properties. These techniques include rubble filled solid masonry walling with lime, Ashlar stone walling and detailing, as well as using the firm’s own reclamation and salvage stocks. The skilled tradesmen also carry out specialist plastering services using lime and hemp heritage techniques, as well as performing tried and tested holistic breathing wall technology.

Carrock Design and Build also offer clients a full project management service, working with clients through each step of the building process. The firm also provides a bespoke architectural and design service, with Managing Director Malcolm Iredale an experienced practicing architect at its helm, the company are well versed at breathing new life into older buildings.

The firm also provides an in-house Plumbing and Heating installation service using highly qualified engineers. The firm pride themselves on delivering a quality service whilst developing essential experience and expertise in the current and emerging technologies. These emerging techniques include under-floor heating, advanced control systems and renewable technologies, such as biomass boilers.

Carrock’s also offers clients a Traditional Roofing service which was launched in April 2013. Due to specialist roofing materials and labour costs continuing to escalate locally the company decided to expand and offer this as an in-house service. The firm employs a skilled traditional Cumbrian roofing team and also stock a wide range of reclaimed roofing slates.

The firm also runs a premium Painting and Decorating service in order to provide customers with a reliable, high quality offer. The company wanted to provide a perfect finish for all their design and build customers on time; this service is also available to the general public. So in 2012 Carrock’s recruited City & Guilds qualified decorators who carry out painting and decorating services, paper hanging, ornate work as well as cornicing. The team is also heritage lime and earth based paint specialists.

Carrock Design and Build are strong advocates of Renewable Energy Sources and have firsthand experience of a wide variety of installations, to suit varying needs. The team believes in sustainable energy which assists the construction of long lasting properties.
