Q-Grill

Q Grillو Chalk Farm Road, opposite Stables Market, Camden

Des McDonald, one time Ivy chef and former CEO of Caprice Holdings, has recently unveiled Q Grill; a sassy all-American bar and grill serving an array of meat and fish dishes.

Located on Chalk Farm Road, opposite Stables Market the inspiration behind the venue was to create an environment which evokes the smoky barbeques of The Deep South.

The new BBQ restaurant and bar in Camden takes influences from differing barbeque styles around the globe bringing a new approach to one of the world’s oldest cooking techniques. Using traditional barbeque methods perfected over decades, Q Grill serves up raw, grilled and smoked favourites with a modern twist.

We caught up with Alexander Evangelou, the co-founder of Alexander Waterworth Interiors, who acted as the lead architects on the Q Grill project to find out more. He said that although Des MacDonald wanted to create a Deep South feel in the venue he did not want it be too rustic and so the design team have taken this into account, trying to make the venue as comfortable and luxurious as possible.

Des McDonald recently also opened the acclaimed Holborn Dining Room at Rosewood London. The concept for Q Grill is simple: ‘farm to grill, meets Camden Town’. The restaurant takes pride in serving a menu of the highest quality produce, smoked, grilled or from the raw counter to discerning Londoners.

McDonald said:

Here at Q Grill we have coupled the sweet tasting BBQ flavours of a traditional Memphis-style Smokehouse, the charcoal grills of South America and the delicate raw flavours found in the dishes of coastal regions from Asia to Brazil, with our own unique approach. I am delighted to bring this perfected combination to Camden”.

Alexander Evangelou said the team wanted Q to offer a pleasant dining experience and so had to ensure the design was not too rough around the edges. Upon entering the space guests are greeted by a vast bar which stretches 25 feet, to the left fixed window seats offer lovely views outside. The windows open up and so in the summer offer an indoor-outdoor dining experience, allowing guests to enjoy the best of both worlds.

Alexander Waterworth Interiors were assisted by the main contractors Link2Construction who installed five eight seater booths to the left of the bar, along the rear wall of the property. The back wall boasts an American influenced feature wall which adds to the Tennessee bar and grill feel.

Luxurious deep leather banquettes have been installed which offer great views of Q’s exciting kitchen and grill; the mezzanine area, which contains its own small bar space, also boasts premium views of the kitchen.

Past the kitchen there is a staircase which leads up to the mezzanine level which contains a t-shaped bar and quirky seating. The space is ideal for private parties and for those who wish to hire out space for a special event.

Q’s menu leaves nothing to be desired offering a mixture of dishes that are sure to wet diner’s appetites. Favourites include Fried Chicken, Avocado and Blue Cheese Sauce, Pit Smoked Beef Hash, Fried Duck Egg, and Soft Shell Crab, Pickled Kohlrabi Butter Bun. If none of these tickle your fancy why not sample the Q Burger, the Hickory Chickory Salad or Pit Roast Chicken with Garlic and Lemon which can be ordered Half or Whole.

The sides provide the perfect addition to the barbeque-style mains, including seasoned fries, creamed corn, Q baked beans, house slaw and Scrumpy-fried onion rings. The dessert menu at Q is ideal for sweet toothed diners comprising a selection of mouth-watering dishes including Pit Grilled Pineapple Lime Sorbet, Banoffee Cheesecake, Nutty Coupe, Bulleit Bourbon & Pecan Tart amongst many other goodies.
